Examples Of DutiesSUMMARY
The Director of the Maritime|253 Skills Center provides leadership in the development, operation, and oversight of innovative and high-quality programs tailored to meet the educational, career, and technical of students in maritime and related industries. The Director works in close collaboration with industry and community stakeholders to ensure the delivery of cutting-edge curricula, while also managing program administration, compliance with regulations, and evaluation processes. The individual in this role ensures that students acquire the necessary skills, knowledge, and values to thrive in their careers.
Duties may also include: Assist with the leadership responsibilities and oversight of the Career & College Readiness program, alongside their duties as Director of the Maritime|253 Skills Center i n an “Assistant Director” capacity.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Direct the development, administration, and continuous improvement of Maritime|253 Skills Center’s educational and operational programs in alignment with district goals, industry trends, and workforce demands.Cultivate and sustain strategic partnerships with the Port of Tacoma, local maritime industries, community organizations, and post-secondary institutions to create and enhance pathways for student success.Supervise and evaluate a team of staff, ensuring that certifications and professional development are aligned with program objectives and contribute to ongoing excellence.Lead curriculum development in partnership with industry representatives, advisory committees, and educational stakeholders, ensuring alignment with state standards and current industry practices.Oversee the development and management of the Skills Center budget, ensuring compliance with district, state, and federal regulations, while prioritizing resources to achieve program goals and maximize student outcomes.Drive recruitment, enrollment, and retention efforts to ensure equitable access to Maritime|253 programs, with a focus on supporting underrepresented groups and diverse student populations.Ensure that all facilities, equipment, and materials meet industry standards, fostering a safe and supportive environment for both students and staff.Prepare, maintain, and submit all necessary reports, data, and documentation in adherence with district policies and state/federal requirements, ensuring full compliance with regulatory standards.Represent the Maritime|253 Skills Center in local, regional, and national forums, advocating for career and technical education and its critical role in workforce development.Collaborate with district leaders to integrate Skills Center programs with Tacoma Public Schools’ broader Career & College Readiness initiatives ensuring coherence and alignment across educational efforts.Oversee marketing and communication strategies to raise community awareness and support for the Skills Center’s mission, programs, and student success.Lead safety and emergency preparedness initiatives, ensuring that the Skills Center complies with all applicable safety regulations and best practices.
OTHER JOB DUTIES
Remain current on trends and best practices in career and technical education and maritime industries through ongoing professional development.Manage special projects and perform additional tasks as required.Maintain regular, reliable, and predictable attendance, which is critical to the performance of the work.
CONDITIONS
Required to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Required to travel to various district and community sites. Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds and perform physical activities such as bending, squatting, stooping, and kneeling.
Minimum QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Master’s degree in educational leadership, career and technical education, or a related field from an accredited college or university; minimum of five years of successful teaching or administrative experience in career and technical education or a related field; demonstrated experience collaborating with industry and community partners to design and implement educational programs.
Licenses/Special Requirements
Valid Washington State Career and Technical Education Program Director certificate or Principal certificate
Valid Washington State driver’s license.
Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance.
Allowable Substitution
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be evaluated by the Human Resources
department for comparability.
