    Job Description

    The Agency Instructor IV, under direction, will assist in training various specialty skilled and/or semi-skilled courses within the environmental health and safety program while utilizing knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles to maximize learner success and guided by Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service’s (TEEX) Safety, Teamwork, Adaptability, Respect and Stewardship (STARS) values. The Instructor will perform online, hybrid, and/or in classroom instruction, field-based skills training, and/or may provide technical assistance in the Environmental Health and Safety areas. This position is responsible for utilizing knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles to help maximize learner success and ensure overall effectiveness of the course instruction. This position is also responsible for using a variety of media to present course materials and may assist in creating new and/or updating curriculum content, when necessary, to meet learner needs. The Agency Instructor IV position is also entrusted to represent TEEX, ITSI, and the EHS Program well whenever they are representing the TEEX EHS Program.

    This position reports to the Agency (EHS) Training Coordinator.

    Required Qualifications:
    • High School Diploma or GED.
    • Five years of health and safety related experience.
    • Two years of experience in adult education and/or training.


    Required Licenses/Certifications:
    • Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
    • Must have a valid passport or ability to obtain within 180 days of employment.


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • CSP, CHMM, CSHO, or CIH certification.
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning in an Environmental or Occupational Health and Safety field.
    • Extensive working knowledge in the field of environmental health and safety.
    • Extensive experience delivering training in the on-line virtual environment.
    • Ability to speak, write and understand Spanish.


    Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to work in various weather conditions to deliver training.
    • Ability to support training delivery for up to 8-10 hours/day.
    • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
    • Physical conditioning consistent with occasional set up of classrooms, movement of training equipment and instructional materials up to 30 lbs. with assistance.
    • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines.

    • Extensive working knowledge of occupational safety and health including applicable regulatory agencies.
    • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to positively and professionally interact with clients and staff.
    • Excellent oral/written communication and presentation skills (in-person and on-line environment).
    • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
    • Working knowledge of office software and instructional programs.
    • Knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instructing individuals and groups.
    • Skilled in utilizing various learning and active listening strategies.
    • Ability to comprehend and express information and use inductive and deductive reasoning.
    • Ability to facilitate and adapt course and course content.
    • Ability to positively and professionally interact with clients and staff, groups of various sizes.
    • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
    • Demonstrate a positive attitude and work ethic.


    Equipment:
    • Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone.
    • Environmental, Health and Safety training equipment.
    • Standard audio/visual Equipment: TV, Projectors, PA systems.
    • Internet based video platforms to include: WebEx, Zoom, Teams.


    Notifications:
    • This position is security sensitive.
    • This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
    • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
    • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.
    • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle and/or flying on commercial airlines.
    • This is a wage position established to accommodate a temporary organizational need. As such, TEEX does not guarantee any set number of hours or length of employment in this role.


    Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:

    Provide Classroom Instruction - 70%
    • Instructs courses and provides technical assistance when needed.
    • Prepares training materials, training aids, and/or equipment prior to course.
    • Ensure classrooms are ready for participants.
    • Ensures concerned parties, points of contacts, host organization, agencies, are contacted and notified of schedules, locations, and times.
    • Ensures participants have achieved terminal objectives of the course.
    • Ensures training materials, training aids, and classrooms are secured upon completion of the course.
    • Maintains subject matter expertise on topics of instruction.


    Completes Training Documentation -10%
    • Maintains appropriate student activity documentation.
    • Ensures course evaluations are collected and returned as instructed by program manager.
    • Completes required administrative work to include student records, travel submissions, and time/effort paperwork is completed accurately and in a timely manner, in accordance with Division and Agency requirements.
    • Completes all course documents in a timely manner.


    Course Development/Review - 10%
    • Actively participates in the update of curriculum as necessary, taking on classes as the SME.
    • Assists with revisions and updating existing course materials as necessary.
    • Assists with the research and development of new course material as necessary.
    • Assists with reviewing new instructional material to determine relevance with current courses as necessary.


    Provide Program Support - 10%
    • Assists the Training Manager/Coordinator with customer interactions.
    • Assists in the marketing of division programs and events to potential customers and students.


    Additional Program/Division Responsibilities:
    • Actively demonstrates the TEEX Values - Safety, Teamwork, Adaptability, Respect, and Stewardship.
    • Uphold the TEEX Code of Conduct.
    • Participates in required training.
    • Performs additional work duties as assigned.
