Full-time position available with the Parks & Recreation Department, Community Services Division located at Southeast Community Center, 4201 East 63rd Street
Salary Range: $17.35-$26.47/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities
- Leads and instructs American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification classes to new and existing lifeguards within the department.
- Leads and instructs America Red Cross AED/CPR/First Aid classes to department staff as well as to the public.
- Leads and Instructs swim lessons to swim lesson participants.
- Teaches and trains lifeguards to conduct swim lessons to the public.
- Leads and instructs private swimming lessons.
- Rescues swimmers who are tired or having difficulties.
- Applies artificial respiration or Cardio- Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), if necessary.
- Administers first aid to cuts and other injuries suffered by swimmers.
- Conducts and monitors aquatics activities.
- Learns to perform tasks in accordance with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Leads and instructs aquatic fitness programming.
- Leads, plans and organizes monthly natatorium events to promote the indoor pool and officiates at water contests and exhibitions as needed.
- Opens, secures, and cleans program areas before and after program use.
- Prepares program areas for scheduled activities and events.
- Observes and enforces all rules and regulations of the facility.
- Educates and informs patrons of the rules and regulations of the facility.
- Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility.
- Respond quickly to all emergencies.
- Communicates with the lifeguard team and facility staff.
- Makes routine chlorine tests of the swimming pool water.
- Attends monthly- training sessions.
- Completes all appropriate daily paperwork and trainings during shift.
- Inspects program areas and equipment and recommends maintenance and repair as needed.
- Issues, receives, and controls the use of recreational equipment and supplies.
- Monitors equipment inventories and recommends procurement of items as needed.
- Assists with special events as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIRES high school graduation and 6 months of experience in recreational activities. May be required to possess a valid state-issued driver's license in accordance with the City of KCMO policies. Must pass a preemployment drug screen as prescribed by the City.

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
