The City of Billings is seeking a Communications Center Manager for their consolidated 911 dispatch center which provides the critical link between the community and public safety resources for Yellowstone County. Billings is Montana's largest city (pop. 120,000) and the county seat of Yellowstone County. Billings is known for its blend of high-quality amenities on an appealing small-town scale, combined with the natural beauty of the nearby Rocky Mountains.
THE BILLINGS CITY/COUNTY COMMUNICATIONS CENTER
The Center provides 911 dispatch services for the Billings Fire Department, Billings Police Department, Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Department, AMR, and 9 rural fire agencies. Operationally, the Center lives within the Billings Fire Department with a budget of $4.9 million and authorized staffing that includes a manager, assistant manager, 5 supervisors, 31 full-time dispatchers, public safety technician, and administrative support II. In 2018, the City of Billings built and occupied a $5.5 million, 9,100 square foot 911 Communications Center that includes a new, state-of-the-art Astro Communications network. The Center responds to approximately 300,000 total calls per year.
THE COMMUNICATIONS CENTER MANAGER
Reporting to the Fire Department’s Assistant Chief of Administration, the Communications Center Manager supervises, plans, and coordinates the activities and operations of the Communications Center including all aspects of a consolidated 911 dispatch center operating in an automated 24/7 environment. This includes the management, operation and maintenance of a 3 site simulcast 800MHz radio system that serves public safety and various City of Billings departments. The Manager coordinates assigned activities with other divisions, outside agencies, and the public and provides highly responsible and complex staff assistance to the Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chiefs.
