    Wake County Health & Human Services Dental Clinic is seeking a flexible, high-energy, patient-focused Dental Hygienist to join #TeamWake!     About the Clinic:
    Our clinic provides comprehensive dental services to children ages birth to 20 years, including those with Medicaid and uninsured low-income children. We are deeply involved in community outreach and work to promote early detection of childhood caries, including annual programs like Give Kids A Smile and dental screenings for North Carolina Pre-K children. Additionally, we are a recipient of the Delta Dental Foundation Smiles for Kids Program Grant and have provided thousands of preventative dental visits through our Community Health Medical Access Program grant.

    Responsibilities include:
    As a Dental Hygienist at Wake County Health & Human Services, you will be responsible for providing direct clinical preventative dental services to qualified citizens of Wake County. You will also be expected to provide dental education to patients and their families and assist in training dental students, dental hygiene students, and dental assisting students. Specific duties include:
    • Performing preventative dental procedures, including cleanings, fluoride varnish applications, and sealants
    • Exposing, developing, and mounting radiographs
    • Seating and preparing patients for dental appointments and dismissing patients after procedures
    • Maintaining infection control protocols, ensuring proper sterilization of dental equipment and adherence to CDC and OSHA guidelines
    • Educating patients and parents on proper oral hygiene and preventive care
    • Assisting in the training and guidance of rotating dental students, dental hygiene students, and dental assisting students
    • Fostering a team-centered environment and maintaining positive relationships with all clinic staff
    • Participating in community outreach events such as Give Kids A Smile to promote public relations and awareness
    • Staying current with the latest dental techniques, materials, and infection control standards

    The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

    • Associate's degree or equivalent from an accredited dental hygiene program
    • One year of experience as a dental hygienist
    • Licensed to practice as Dental Hygienist by the NC State Board of Dental Examiners
    • CPR
    • Equivalent education and experience are NOT accepted

    Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

    • More than one-year experience providing dental care in a public health or mostly pediatric population setting
    • Spanish Languages skills preferred but not required
    • Experience with Dentrix or similar dental software
    • Current/active CPR certification and NC Dental Hygiene License required

    • Ability to maintain conditions that ensure a healthy and safe working environment

    Emergency Service Worker Statement
