    The Position

    Under general direction, Wildlife Staff Specialists perform program research, planning, analysis and evaluation; draft proposed legislation, policies, procedures and regulations related to wildlife management programs and activities throughout the State.

    This position is responsible for leading the Department's efforts to design, implement, maintain, and administer the Department of Wildlife's centralized wildlife database system. This system is critical to support and improve wildlife and habitat conservation efforts across Nevada as well as improve business processes for resource staff. The incumbent will function as a project manager and technical expert that will coordinate with Department staff, including resource biologists, wildlife specialists, GIS analysists, as well as conservation partners, and database system contractors. Duties include strategy recommendations; coordinating the development and implementation of a new centralized database system; communicating with resource staff to understand data collection workflows, QA/QC processes, data organization and relational requirements, data analysis and reporting, and other functional or business requirements; managing contracts and relationships with vendor(s); managing budgets and expenditures; and other project management duties. Duties also include overseeing improvements and maintenance of existing databases.

    The ideal candidate possesses a high level of knowledge and has demonstrated experience with wildlife or natural resource datasets; knowledge and experience with spatial and tabular data management, general database structure and functional requirements; strong communication and project management skills, and a desire to coordinate with others to ensure the centralized database system meets the needs of the Department's resource staff. Knowledge and experience of geospatial data and software is preferred. This position will work alongside the Department's GIS Team to ensure spatial data requirements are met and centralized database solutions are integrated with a planned transition to ArcGIS Enterprise. Knowledge and experience with programming and relational database management systems is preferred. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the planning and implementation of centralized data management, analysis, and visualization products that are key to improved decision-making for wildlife and habitat resource conservation.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in wildlife management, biology or closely related field and four years of professional experience that included organizing, planning and completing wildlife management studies, writing technical reports and preparing species or land use management plans and recommendations related to wildlife management; OR one year as a Biologist III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.
