    Overview

    At Larimer County Department of Human Services, we strive to be responsive and provide timely resources in partnership with our community so individuals and families are healthy, supported, and safe. We are seeking a highly motivated, innovative, enthusiastic, and inclusive staff member to join our Administration, Communication, and Excellence (ACE) Division as a Part-Time Temp Spanish Interpreter.

    The interpreter will be responsible for providing Spanish interpretation and translation services for various Human Services teams working with our clients in the community.

    This position will require work in various locations, including Larimer County Human Services office buildings, community partner locations, and/or client's homes. There may also be virtual (Zoom) meetings done remotely from the interpreter's home. You will be required to have adequate internet access and space for remote work. Larimer County Human Services provides an equipment package (laptop, monitors, keyboard, and mouse) to ensure employees are prepared for at-home work.

    Average weekly hours are not guaranteed and could range from 4-30 hours per week, not to exceed 30 hours per week. This position is expected to be long-term but will depend on business needs.

    Responsibilities

    What you'll be doing:
    • Listening and interpreting complicated and sensitive situations with families involved in the Department of Human Services. This could include family meetings to talk about safety plans or custody arrangements, meetings with families at their homes, a Human Services location, or a community partner location to discuss a report that was given to Human Services and is being investigated, and/or discussions about benefits the family or individual may qualify for.
    • Providing accurate translations of Human Services documents or communications.
    • Conveying the speaker's thoughts, purpose, spirit, emotions, and tone from English to Spanish.
    • Assisting Human Services staff and clients with written and oral communication as needed.

    What we're looking for:
    • Proficient in Google and Zoom.
    • Bilingual (Spanish) communication skills.
    • Communication skills and the ability to ask follow-up questions and provide detail when needed.
    • Ability to provide professional customer service to clients and staff.
    • Open work availability that may include working between the hours of 7 am - 8 pm Monday through Sunday, including holidays.
    • Strong ethics and confidentiality standards.
    • Ability to work virtually or in person (at a client's home in the community, community partner organization, or a Human Services location)


    Qualifications

    • Two years of experience with verbal or sign language translation in a professional/business setting is required.
    • High School Diploma or GED required.
    • Possess reliable transportation to be able to work in any County facility as needed and required.
