    Wake County is excited to offer an incredible opportunity as a Housing Diversion Specialist-make a difference in your community today!

    The Housing Diversion Specialist is responsible for identifying and transitioning guests into a full range of permanent housing opportunities, including individual apartments and shared housing. The Housing navigator will be based at the South Wilmington Street Center but may also conduct outreach activities to connect with local landlords. The Housing Diversion Specialist will work as a lead for a case management team that works closely with landlords to identify units.

    The Housing Diversion Specialist provides guidance and support to guests and staff in searching for and securing housing by utilizing their housing stabilization plan and personal goals. You will assist clients with housing applications, complete supportive and subsidized housing paperwork, survey rental market for affordable housing and advocate for clients with prospective landlords. You will also support participants in creation and evaluation of safety plans, provide education on their rights, and connect them to community services and resources.

    Essential Functions:
    • Monitor and support participant’s progression through their housing search plan
    • Create and maintain lists of available housing options
    • Act as a liaison between various housing authorities and landlords
    • Gain knowledge of the rules and regulations of various housing programs
    • Recruit and train potential landlords for shared living tenancies
    • Assist in the recruitment and marketing of potential properties, outlining any restrictions and qualifications to help guests find suitable housing solutions
    • Maintain and update client data systems and logs, including case notes, to ensure compliance with program outcomes, effective treatment plans and service goals
    • Act as a liaison between various housing authorities and landlords to help assist clients navigate various subsidized housing options
    • Facilitate and help solve client conflicts, encourage and model appropriate housing interactions and mediate discussions for conflict resolution
    • Effectively communicate with team members and complete other assigned duties
    • Attend all mandatory meetings and trainings to enhance your skills and knowledge and stay informed of the organization's plans and programs, as assigned

The Department’s programs include Community Revitalization, Development Financing, Rental Assistance, Homeless Services, Community Outreach, Emergency Shelter, Veterans Services and Permanent Supportive Housing.

    The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

    • Bachelor's degree

    Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

    • Housing/Homeless Prevention Experience
    • Bi-Lingual Spanish preferred
    • Experience with conducting intake assessments and Diversion - Referring out to community resources
