    The Position

    The Claremont Community Services Department is looking for highly motivated individuals with a strong work ethic to provide assistance to the Maintenance Division. Maintenance Assistants in the Maintenance Division will assist the City by performing basic maintenance tasks, as assigned. The Maintenance Division is split into two crews, Buildings/Infrastructure and Parks.

    Maintenance Assistants on the Buildings and Infrastructure crew will assist the City by performing basic maintenance tasks, as assigned. These employees will perform basic building maintenance, pick up trash, remove graffiti, conduct minor asphalt patching, provide sewer maintenance, replace/install signs, and power wash.

    Maintenance Assistants on the Parks crew will assist the City by performing basic maintenance tasks, as assigned. These employees will perform basic irrigation repairs, playground equipment repairs, and basic plumbing repairs, and will assist with maintenance and burials at the City-owned cemetery.

    The Maintenance Assistant position is 25 hours per week between Monday and Saturday, 6:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Hours of work may vary, and some evening and holiday hours may be required.

    Ideal Candidate

    Qualified applicants will have completed 12th grade or equivalent and have a valid California Class C driver's license and good driving record. Applicants must also have the ability to understand and respond to requests from the public and staff for assistance, both on the phone and in person. Prior maintenance experience is highly desired.

    Must have the ability to:

    Operate telephone, portable radio and other common office equipment.

    Operate common landscape maintenance and general maintenance equipment.

    Understand and respond to the public's and staff's requests for assistance both on the phone and in person.

    Sit, stand, stoop, or bend for up to two hours at a time.

    Lift up to 45 pounds.

    Get from one location to another in the course of doing business.
