    Role

    Yavapai County is seeking a Director of Criminal Justice Coordinating Council

    The Director of the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) must establish and maintain robust working relationships with all organizations involved in the criminal justice system, as well as with key community leaders. The ideal candidate should be a systems thinker with a strong process orientation and exceptional analytical abilities, particularly in data analysis and reporting. The Director will play a pivotal role in facilitating collaboration among effective managers and leaders from the various agencies that comprise the criminal justice system.

    The position operates under the general direction of the CJCC and receives direct supervision from the Yavapai County Manager.

    Major Duties, Responsibilities

    • Provide logistical and staff support to the CJCC, the CJCC executive committee, and any CJCC standing committees, work groups, etc.
    • Coordinate the planning and implementation of CJCC initiatives.
    • Foster collaboration across elected and nonelected officials; state, county, and municipal departments; nongovernmental organizations; and local communities to advance priorities established by the CJCC.
    • Identify opportunities and recommend adjustments in criminal justice policies, procedures, and programs, based on empirical research, evidence-based practices, and state and federal laws, to the CJCC.
    • Collect and analyze data from criminal justice agencies serving on the CJCC for the purpose of identifying and researching policy and programmatic changes to enhance the efficiency of the criminal justice system.
    • Serve as a policy advisor and key point of contact for criminal justice partners.
    • Expand partnerships with governmental agencies, private and non-profit organizations, foundations, and related entities to support system improvements.
    • Procure and manage federal, state, and private grants.
    • Oversee and manage various short- and long-term projects of high complexity that often involve multiple strategic partners on behalf of the CJCC.
    • Monitor and inform CJCC policy makers on proposed local, state, and federal legislative and policy changes that impact the justice system.
    • Produce regular reports on the CJCC and criminal justice system, including an annual CJCC report, and present findings to a wide variety of audiences including government administrators, elected officials, and the public.
    • Produce and regularly monitor the status of a CJCC strategic plan.
    • Facilitate communication with justice stakeholders and local communities to promote an understanding of the administration of criminal and juvenile justice in Yavapai County and the public safety issues and challenges facing the county.
    • Advance racial and ethnic equity in the local criminal justice system and expand inclusion of the community, especially communities of color, in decision-making.
    • Represent the CJCC at local, state, and national forums and serve as liaison to local agencies.
    • Provide orientation for new CJCC members.
    • Manage the annual budget of the CJCC.
    • Any additional job-related duties assigned by the CJCC, executive committee, chairpersons, or the County Manager.


    Minimum Qualifications

    Education:
    Master’s degree in public administration, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Political Science or closely related field from an accredited college or university

    Experience:
    Minimum of three (3) years of experience with criminal justice and/or government agencies or programs.

    An equivalent combination of directly related work experience and education may substitute for the advanced degree requirement on a year-per-year basis.

    Additional Requirements:
    Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.
