What You'll Be DoingThe Wake County Sheriff's Office is looking for a powerhouse communications expert to serve as our next Public Information Officer.
In this role you will: - Write and edit press releases, public service announcements, speeches, and social media posts
- Create communication between the Sheriff's Office, news media outlets and the general public
- Work in collaboration with staff members at all levels of the agency to identify, recommend, develop, and support effective communication and public relations services and outcomes that meet the needs of the residents of Wake County
- Develop, edit and maintain visual assets, including video, photographs, graphics, and images for digital use
- Accept and respond to all requests originated from news media outlets and the public in accordance with North Carolina public record statutes
- Work outside typical business hours, as needed, to assist journalists in meeting deadlines and/or supporting the Sheriff's Office at special events
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Sheriff or other members of the Sheriff's command staff

The Basics (Required Education and Experience) - High school diploma or GED
- Experience level determined at the discretion of the Sheriff
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience) - Bachelor's in Journalism, Communications or related field

- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to build effective relationships at all levels, both internally and externally
- Advanced knowledge of the work group and division typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience
