Vancouver is Washington’s fourth-largest city. It is located on the north bank of the Columbia River, directly across from Portland, Oregon. Ideally situated, Vancouver is less than 90 miles from the Pacific Coast and bordered by the Cascades to the east. Mount St. Helens and Mt. Hood are under a two-hour drive, and the stunning Columbia River Gorge is just 30 minutes away.

A vibrant, growing city, Vancouver has an incorporated population of 200,000, a direct service population of nearly 300,000 (utilities and fire/EMS), and an urban growth area population of nearly 400,000.  The city is in a sustained period of significant growth and urbanization, adding more than 30,000 new residents in the last 10 years. This growth has brought a vibrant diversity that is quickly evolving the community’s tapestry of cultures and identity.

The Deputy City Manager is one of two Deputy City Managers who reports directly to the City Manager and oversees the City departments that are vital to the vibrant community. These departments include Economic Prosperity and Housing; Community Development; Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services; Public Works, and the Policy and Program Management Division of the City Manager’s Office. The City is seeking a collaborative, enthusiastic, and authentic leader to serve as the next Deputy City Manager. The ideal candidate will be team oriented with the ability to effectively and successfully manage highly complex issues and projects. An intelligent, forward thinking, and politically astute candidate is sought. It is essential that the incoming Deputy City Manager be a champion for equity, and inclusion across the organization and in all assigned areas.

Qualified candidates typically possess the equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business administration, public administration, or a related field, along with ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in local government, including five (5) years at a director level or higher. A Master’s Degree is highly desirable. Residency within Clark County is required by City Charter within six (6) months of hire.

The annual salary range for the Deputy City Manager is $196,920 - $344,604; placement within this range is dependent on qualifications and experience.
