    About Our Team

Wake County Public Libraries (WCPL), a division of Community Services, is a decentralized Library system devoted to promoting the love of reading and fostering the pursuit of knowledge among the citizens of Wake County. To be a successful Library system, WCPL focuses on three factors: developing products people love, operating facilities that are well thought out and providing experiences that are pleasant. WCPL products include books and collections that people want; access to the Internet and other digital services that are easy to use; and programs that are engaging and educational. Library services are supportive of the Commissioner’s goals, as evident in the adoption of the Library Master Plan by the Board of Commissioners. In surveys to its customers, 96.6% of respondents rated their experience with the libraries as excellent or good. Per year, WCPL circulates over 10,000,000 books, has over 3,000,000 visitors and presents over 8,000 programs. Its annual budget is approximately $25 million. WCPL is currently comprised of 247 FTE of staff. Administration consists of a Director, Deputy Director, four Senior Managers each responsible for a major system resource and a Management & Policy Analyst. There are two Library Experience Managers focused on training, development and engagement for staff. The Library system is made up of seven Regional Libraries which range in size from 20,000 sq. ft. to 30,000 sq. ft.; 13 Community Libraries which range in size from 5,000 sq. ft. to 10,000 sq. ft. and two Specialty Libraries, including a local history and genealogy Library.
