Examples Of DutiesSUMMARY
This position supports the Director of Innovative Learning in developing, leading, and implementing a district-wide plan for integrating emerging technologies and innovative practices into Tacoma Public Schools. The role focuses on coordinating esports and robotics competitions while fostering the adoption of design thinking, makerspaces, and artificial intelligence (AI) as essential components of future learning. The Coordinator will collaborate with students, families, staff, administrators, business partners, and post-secondary institutions to prepare students for life beyond high school by creating dynamic and equitable pathways in technology and innovation.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Develops and implements district-wide plans for esports and robotics competitions, including strategic milestones and key performance metrics; ensures student participation and success in local, regional, and national competitions by providing training, mentorship, and logistical support; oversees the integration of emerging innovations, including makerspaces, design thinking, and AI, into district programs and curricula.Builds partnerships with local businesses, community organizations, and higher education institutions to enhance esports, robotics, and other innovation programs; engages advisory committees to ensure programs align with workforce trends, industry standards, and post-secondary requirements.Designs and delivers professional development for educators and staff on esports coaching, robotics, design thinking, makerspaces, and AI integration; serves as a resource for school administrators and staff to support the successful implementation of new programs.Assists in assessing program effectiveness by analyzing participation, performance, and impact data; prepares reports and communication materials summarizing progress, outcomes, and program evaluations for internal and external stakeholders.Promotes inclusivity in all programs, ensuring equitable access for underserved and underrepresented students; Develops strategies to close opportunity gaps in technology and innovation education. Supports culturally responsive teaching and leadership practices within innovative programs; fosters a collaborative and inclusive culture among students, educators, and community partners.
OTHER JOB DUTIES
Stays current with trends in educational technology, esports, robotics, and other emerging innovations.Manages special projects and performs related duties as assigned.Maintains regular, reliable, and predictable attendance as an essential requirement of the position.
CONDITIONS
Required to work flexible hours; required to frequently travel to district and community sites, occasionally travel outside the community; experiences frequent interruptions; occasionally required towork with difficult and sensitive situations and/or people; may be required to lift and carry up to 20 pounds, bend, squat, stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, twist, climb, and/or be mobile.
Minimum QualificationsEducation and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a field related to Career and Technical Education or business from an accredited college or university, preferred; five years of increasingly responsible technology programming experience; work experience in a school district in a confidential role, preferred; communication experience, preferred; or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.
Licenses/Special Requirements
Valid Washington State driver’s license.
Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance.
Allowable Substitution
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be evaluated by the Human Resources department for comparability.
