OverviewThe Natural Resources Department is looking for an temporary Education & Volunteer Program Assistant to join our team!
The Education & Volunteer Assistant plays a vital role in connecting people with nature and fostering a sense of place through dynamic interpretive programming for diverse audiences. This position involves designing, leading, and coordinating engaging educational experiences that spark curiosity and inspire stewardship of the natural world.
In addition to educational programming, the Assistant collaborates closely with our dedicated volunteers, providing essential support for coordinating events and activities while ensuring a positive and rewarding volunteer experience.
This full-time, temporary position (40 hours per week) runs from March through November. A flexible schedule may be available to accommodate academic commitments or other needs.

ResponsibilitiesWhat you'll be doing:
- Supporting the volunteer program by assisting with training, continuing education, monthly newsletters, reporting, volunteer recognition, public events, and in-field supervision.
- Managing administrative tasks, including maintaining the program calendar, tracking program metrics and feedback, and providing support for volunteer naturalists.
- Coordinating and leading outreach efforts such as trailhead tables, community events, scheduling, supply inventory, data tracking, and working alongside volunteers.
- Assisting with the development of educational programs and leading school field trips, special request programs, and night programs.
- Using creative skills to design flyers, presentations, and materials to support volunteers.
- Assisting with programming for preschool-aged children.
- Providing general office support, including communication with staff, volunteers, and partners via email and phone.
- Working at least one weekend day per week and occasionally during evening hours.

What we're looking for:
- Strong communication and customer service skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and manage time independently.
- Self-motivated and proactive in utilizing time efficiently.
- Experience in various aspects of interpretive programming, including concept development, program creation, and teaching.
- Strong team collaboration skills, with the ability to work well in a group setting.
- Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Familiarity with the ecology of Northern Colorado (preferred).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Apps.
- Experience with Canva or similar design tools.

- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- One (1) year of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties, including experience working with volunteers and in education, required.
- Possession of CPR and First Aid certifications within six (6) months of date of hire required.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License by date of hire required.
