    About the Department

    The Housing Department administrators the City’s housing and homelessness response through strategic investments, program and regulatory administrations across 23 lines of business. The Housing Department continues to expand its service delivery and investment portfolio in the communities throughout San Jose, through strategic investments in housing and shelter system management and development expanding to over 1,000 shelter units under management, over 50,000 rent stabilized units under regulatory management, over $700M loan portfolio for housing development, and an aggressive strategy to end unsheltered homelessness in the City of San Jose.

    Position Duties

    The Housing Department is currently seeking to fill one (1) full-time Administrative Officer vacancy in the Administrative Division.

    Salary range for this classification is $121,421.56 - $185,392.22 annually.
    This salary range includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.

    The annual operating budget exceeds $20M and annual fund distribution of over $200M including federal, state and local funding sources. The Administrative Officer reports to the Director of Housing, provides support to the Deputy Directors through the administration of the budget, fiscal, procurement, human resources, information technology and clerical totaling 15 FTEs. The AO is charged with cross-departmental coordination including but not limited to City Manager’s Office, Human Resources, Employee Relations, City Attorney’s Office, and City Auditor’s Office on all matters under supervision, and coordinating with Santa Clara County Government, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

    Due to the complexity, confidentiality, and scope of authority involved, we are seeking someone who is deadline driven, with the ability to plan, collaborate across multiple levels, and execute handling multiple assignments effectively. The candidate will have strong analytical skills and the ability to problem-solve. The candidate must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, critical thinking, and the ability to provide vision and strategic leadership to a large department in the management of all administrative processes.

    Minimum Qualifications

    EducationandExperience:

    Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, public administration or a related field and six (6) years of increasingly responsible experience in business management and/or administration, including at least two (2) years of experience supervising professional staff.

    Selection Process:
