Job Location: This position will be located at 205 Jefferson St., Jefferson City, MO 65101.
Why you’ll love this position: The Accounting area coordinates the Department’s centralized accounting and fiscal program. The Accounting personnel process the payment of Department obligations, record expenditures, serve as a liaison to the Office of Administration (OA) , Division of Accounting and the State Auditor’s Office, provide financial data to the rest of the Department, invest Department funds, prepare all cash receipt documents for submission to the Department of Revenue, prepare and approve the Department’s payroll, maintain the Department’s fixed asset records, and prepare and revise the internal accounting manuals.
- Ensure new grants are set-up in the Statewide Financial system.
- Request federal funds from appropriate grants using the federal grant systems.
- Reconcile funds monthly and/or quarterly for all funds.
- Process and approve Monthly School Payment and ad-hoc payments.
- Oversee the functionality of the Payment Management System.
- Update funding information within the Payment Management system and approve user access.
- Prepare and submit the annual SEA indirect cost plan to the Federal Government.
- Prepare and track cash projections for DESE funds.
- Ensure all accounting payments are made timely and accurately.
- Create various Statewide Financial system federal aid adjustments and journal vouchers as needed.
- Post quarterly federal allocations to the Statewide Financial system regarding Worker’s Compensation, Unemployment Benefits and Cost Allocation Plan.
- Determine funding source and viability of various IT projects.
- Assist with bi-monthly payroll run and reconciliation.
- Ensure consistency and accuracy of the day to day operations of the Accounting section.
- Assist with the implementation of Statewide financial system rewrite.
- Supervise Accounting staff.
- Assume other duties as assigned by Chief Operating Officer.
- Serve on statewide committees regarding accounting issues.
- Create various data warehouse reports as needed.
- Fill in for the duties of the Chief Operating Officer as needed.
- Demonstrate regular, reliable, and engaged attendance.
Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Business Administration, Financial Management, or closely related field.
OR - Four years of experience in accounting, business administration, financial management, or closely related field, and possession of a high school diploma or equivalency.
