Position Information - This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
- This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
- Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
- This position is approved for partial telecommuting with onsite work in San Diego.
Department Summary University Relations and Development (URAD) advances SDSU’s mission through strategic priorities like becoming a premier public research university, fostering resilience, promoting equity and inclusion, and centering students.
URAD builds lasting relationships with alumni, parents, donors, students, and the community to generate private support for diverse programs. It offers services in stewardship, events, gift administration, and communications.
In 2023-2024, URAD raised $131.9M, awarded 2,251 scholarships, and welcomed 5,006 first-time donors. The latest fundraising success can be credited to the university’s goal of building a world-class university campus, research center, and multi-use stadium in Mission Valley; all serving higher education, the public good, and the community’s goals and aspirations.

Education and Experience Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.
These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.
Key Qualifications - Strong knowledge of organizational policies, procedures, and infrastructure, with the ability to apply them effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including attention to detail in grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Proficiency in using office software, technology, and systems to support administrative tasks.
- Ability to independently interpret policies, solve problems, and exercise sound judgment in situations without clear precedents.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze and address operational challenges and recommend effective solutions.
- Experience managing budgets, performing business math, and making accurate projections when required.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to navigate sensitive situations, collaborate with individuals at all levels, and use negotiation techniques to achieve positive outcomes.
Licenses/Certifications Required Valid California Driver’s License or have the ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire.
Compensation and Benefits Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,621 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,058 - $6,653 per month.
