    Overview

    The District Attorney’s Office for the 8th Judicial District (Larimer and Jackson Counties) is seeking a Deputy District Attorney III to join our team. Based in Fort Collins with a second office in Loveland, our district offers a great work and lifestyle balance.     A typical week is expected to be 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday-Friday, with some periodic evening and weekend work when required.

    Responsibilities

    What you'll be doing:
    • Reviewing and analyzing felony case filing materials, including examining evidence, witness statements, the nature of the crime, and determining whether the evidence supports continued prosecution. This includes making independent filing decisions.
    • Conducting legal research, preparing reports, and developing recommendations to enhance District Attorney’s Office policies, procedures, and operations.
    • Representing the County in felony-level criminal proceedings, such as case scheduling, plea negotiations, probation revocation hearings, motions, and sentencings.
    • Acting as the prosecuting attorney in both jury and court trials, ensuring justice is served through thorough preparation and effective litigation.

    What we're looking for:
    • An experienced attorney with multiple years of prosecution experience, particularly in felony-level cases.
    • A professional capable of managing district court cases and rotating between the Juvenile, District Court, and SVU units.
    • Expertise in prosecuting all felony criminal matters with a proven ability to handle complex legal cases.
    • Advanced skills in independent discretion and judgment related to legal procedures, work methods, and case strategies.
    • Prior experience successfully managing felony-level cases is highly preferred.


    Qualifications

    • Three years of experience in criminal prosecution, with demonstrated experience handling felony cases.
    • Current license to practice law in Colorado or obtain it within two (2) months of hire required.
