What You'll Be DoingThe
Housing Department is recruiting for a
Deputy Director of Housing Afford & Community Revitalization who will support the community through four (4) distinct Divisions, each lead by subject matter experts. These divisions are: Equitable Housing & Community Development, Homeless & Prevention Services and Permanent Housing & Supportive Services and Veterans Services.
Reporting directly to the
Housing Department Director, the
Deputy Director will provide solid leadership to the
Departments’ Division Directors and consistent monitoring of programmatic outcomes. By utilizing solid programmatic oversight, management and leadership skills, the
Deputy Director leads the
Housing Division Directors in implementing the housing and support service program vision set forth by the
Housing Director. This position is responsible for ensuring program compliance and requires a solid knowledge of the various funding regulations. This position requires solid communication skills, public speaking skills, efficient organizational skills, effective time management and the ability to manage multiple senior leadership positions as well as numerous Department-wide projects simultaneously.
Other duties may include:Working with other Wake County Departments, municipalities and various community organizations to develop, implement and adjust housing programs and services envisioned by the Housing Director. The ability to build relationships across community systems to identify ways to effectively impact complex systematic issues. This includes ensuring successful housing outcomes. May also stand in for the Housing Director when called upon to increase span of control.

As the population and economy continue to grow in Wake County, the need for affordable housing development and preservation increases. Not only do more units of affordable housing need to be built, housing services must be provided to support families and individuals to access or maintain safe, decent and affordable housing.
Affordable housing is also critical to preserving Wake County’s economic competitiveness by offering housing for workers at all income levels, supporting housing stability and economic opportunity for its residents and furthering Wake County’s commitment to healthy and inclusive growth. The Department’s programs include: Community Revitalization, Development Financing, Homeless and Prevention Services, Emergency Shelter, Support Services and Permanent Supportive Housing.
The Housing Affordability & Community Revitalization Department operates to increase and preserve affordable housing through development and revitalization efforts benefitting the million residents of the County, in coordination with twelve municipalities and development partners. It also ensures the administration and compliance for Federal grant and locally funded programs focused on neighborhood revitalization, rehabilitation, development and public infrastructure projects benefiting low and moderate-income households.
The Basics (Required Education and Experience) - Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Health or related field
- Seven years of experience in housing affordability development and administration including at least three years of supervisory experience
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience) - Master’s Degree in Public Administration
- Ten years experience in affordable housing development, supportive housing program development and/or homelessness continuums of care
- Ten years experience in program management, to include staff supervisory experience
How Will We Know You're 'The One'? - Solid understanding of national best practice affordable housing strategies and experience with affordable housing development, supportive housing programs and housing for those experiencing homelessness
- In-depth knowledge of Local, State and Federal housing regulations, funding opportunities and reporting requirements
- Expertise in administrative management principles, including budgeting, office procedures and reporting
- Skilled in training, supervising and fostering team collaboration with the ability to analyze, synthesize and evaluate data for program development and analysis
- Proficient in developing program policies, procedures and guidelines to meet organizational objectives and managing consultants and partners for program evaluation and launch
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, build cross-functional relationships, provide oversight and deliver exceptional customer service while achieving goals and meeting deadlines
