    Our Recreation Services Leaders are a key part of our recreation team. They assist or may even lead programs such as special events, arts and crafts, youth programs, senior programs, performing arts, nature center programs, or sports like boxing, baseball, basketball, soccer, and beyond.     Essential Job Functions

    • Coordinates or organizes the presentation of programs such as arts and crafts, dance, music, and theater arts; assists in the development and presentation of special recreation programs for senior citizens, youths, and people with disabilities.
    • Coordinates park activities and assists in the development of park community and cultural events such as Harvest Festival, Holiday in the Park, Pride, etc.
    • Plans and coordinates playground, and community center athletic activities including tournaments, leagues and contests.
    • Monitors the use and care of equipment and facilities at one or more parks.
    • Inspects playground and sports equipment, amenities, and facilities for safety and proper operation.
    • Maintains or assists in maintaining safety, cleanliness, and order at park facilities; monitors activities and ensures safety rules are observed.
    • Assists in the preparation of athletic fields and venues for tournaments and leagues.
    • Assists with routine clerical duties such as the preparation of use permits and reports, fee collection and reporting, and program scheduling.
    • Provide direction to temporary or seasonal staff and volunteers as needed.
    • Assists in the handling of public complaints.


    Requirements

    SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

    TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

    Six (6) months (960 hours total) of experience instructing, conducting, coaching, or planning recreational programs in such areas as, but not limited to, sports, organized play, arts & crafts, dance, music, senior programs, youth programs, outdoor recreation, community and cultural events, or nature center/natural area programs. Volunteer experience* accepted.

    LICENSE
    A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

    PHYSICAL CLASS III: Moderate
    This class required that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighting over 25 points, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

    EXAMINATION CONTENT:
    This exam will consist of one part:
    A multiple choice and/or simulation assessment, weighted 100%, assessing Customer Focus, Learning Potential, and Responsibility.

    MULTIPLE CHOICE AND/OR SIMULATION ASSESSMENTS ARE NOT REVIEWABLE BY CANDIDATES PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE REQUIREMENTS AND ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE OF 70% OR HIGHER ON THE EXAMINATION TO BE ADDED ON THE ELIGIBLE LIST.

    • Applicants who have taken identical components recently for other exams may have their responses automatically transferred to this examination.
    • This examination contains test components that may be used in the future for new examinations and your test responses may be transferred.

    TEST PREPARATION : Study guides and other test preparation resources are available to help candidates prepare for employment tests. While the guides will help you preparing for the test, we advise you to review all related materials that you deem necessary.

    ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION : The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
    SELECTIVE CERTIFICATIO N : For those who pass the assessment, we may establish a secondary list targeting additional qualifications we are seeking for specialized positions. We are looking for specific experience in areas like team sports, natural areas & nature programs, and teen programs. You need to answer the supplemental questionnaire and complete the work experience section carefully, specifically, and accurately in order to be considered. Please list the experience we are asking about in the work experience section of the application and answer the supplemental questions accordingly.

    SPECIAL INFORMATION :
