About the Opportunity THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The Probation Department is looking for an energetic, team-oriented candidate to be part of the department's Fiscal Unit. THE POSITION
Working under general direction of the Accountant I, the Staff Services Technician (SST) will perform a wide variety of functions including, but not limited to, tracking of Department contracts, obtaining/maintaining required insurance certificates, uploading contracts into the County’s contract management system (CIMS), working with Purchasing to get purchase orders issued, managing the Department’s purchasing card program, generate and provide statistical data for various agencies/departments, provide support for all staff, and other duties as assigned.

Individuals who are in a full-time classification position are required to serve a twelve-month probationary period, which may be extended an additional six months, for a total of eighteen months.
This position is subject to overtime, standby, shift, and callback assignments and will perform related duties as assigned. Typical Tasks - Support the complex administrative needs of staff;
- Create and prepare statistical reports related to operational functions;
- Gather, coordinate, and organize information and data for required record keeping and reporting needs;
- Maintain proficiency in the use of software and hardware utilized by the department;
- Liaison between the Department and the Auditors Office for issuance of purchasing cards;
- Gather and maintain required receipts/documentation for credit card purchases;
- Process credit card purchases in the County’s One Card system;
- Assist Executive Staff with the renewal of contracts and Board of Supervisors approval;
- Obtain and monitor Certificates of Insurance required for purchases and contracts;
- Track/maintain the Department’s contracts in the County’s contract management system;
- Work with Purchasing to get purchase orders issued;
- Complete monthly and quarterly statistical reports;
- Interpret statistical data for department administrators;
- Assist the Accountant I with processing of invoices;
- Provide backup for the Accounting Unit; and
- Other tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education/Experience) KNOWLEDGE - Modern office practices/record-keeping;
- Statistical record keeping and reporting concepts, methods and techniques;
- Data processing relating to budget control or payroll;
- Spelling, grammar, and elements of proper writing procedures; and
- Principles and techniques of employee supervision.
SKILLS/ABILITIES - Work independently, under general supervision;
- Supervise staff conducting technical assistance;
- Interpret and prepare statistical reports;
- Communicate effectively;
- Speak and write in a clear, concise manner;
- Effectively manage time and prioritize work tasks around strict timelines and deadlines;
- Develop and maintain record-keeping systems and electronic databases;
- Prepare recommendations for Departmental and County review;
- Sit at desk for extended amounts of time;
- Lift, bend, stoop and reach overhead; and
- Push, pull, squat, twist, and turn.

PATTERN II - Two years performing highly complex clerical duties with lead-worker, programmatically or accounting responsibilities.

- 6 months experience in using Oracle ERP - preferably Accounts Payable, Purchasing, or General Ledger
- 6 months experience in County contracts and purchasing practices
