Why you’d love this position: State Approving Agencies were established by Congress to work in partnership with the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) to ensure that education and training programs funded under the GI Bill® are of quality and represent value to veterans, their family members, and the U.S. taxpayers. This position allows us to protect and serve our veterans and their families as they seek to achieve higher education and training.
- Inspects and supervises educational institutions and business establishments in accordance with applicable State and Federal Statutes and standards.
- Performs compliance surveys, submits referrals and interacts with VA on resolution.
- Prepares written reports related to the recommendations and actions related to status of courses offered by educational institutions and business establishments.
- Serves on a Reviewing Committee to act on applications for approval and on charges brought against educational institutions and business establishments.
- Develops quality program publications utilizing various sources and mediums.
- Prepares and completes quarterly and annual performance evaluation reports and submits to VA.
- Prepares and completes contract annually.
- Coordinates and performs outreach activities promoting program awareness and utilization.
- Travels occasionally in-state or out-of-state, as required for the position.
- Performs other related work as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Knowledge of federal and state laws, rules, regulations governing the education and training of veterans.
- Knowledge of school administration, curriculum development and instruction.
- Knowledge of policies, procedures, course content, and training facilities in educational institutions and business establishments.
- Ability to research, consider, and solve complex problems or situations
- Ability to confer with and provide technical assistance to various partners.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate programs of education and training in accordance with established criteria.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, for purpose of reports and outreach presentations.
Minimum Education and Experience - Experience in area(s) of administrative oversight, education, military, veterans’ services or a closely related area; AND
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with 5 years of experience as listed above; or
- Master’s degree with 3 years of experience as listed above; or
- Doctorate degree with 1 year of experience as listed above.
- Veterans’ preference in hiring shall be given in accordance with State Law.
Minimum educational requirements are defined by the
Title 38-Veterans’ Benefits, 38 U.S.C. 3674A.
