They will participate in snow and ice removal activities as well as graffiti removal activities. The successful candidate will operate a variety of public works maintenance tools and equipment.
We currently have multiple vacancies in the Maintenance and Operations Department in which hiring will begin immediately following the close of this recruitment. This recruitment will also establish a list for future vacancies, which will be filled as they occur.

- Operate a variety of equipment and hand and power tools in the performance of assigned functions; haul and dump debris, cut trees, branches and shrubs, and pick up litter.
- Perform a variety of maintenance duties in the overlay of street surfaces; rake and spread asphalt; seal cracks and patch streets; perform pot hole patching and surface repairs using jack hammers and other equipment to fill and compact repaired areas.
- Perform street cuts for excavation and replacement of new asphalt; remove and replace concrete and asphalt; construct forms, lay cement and finish cement on curbs, gutters and sidewalks; perform cement repairs and patch work.
- Operate snow plows, sanders, and related snow removal equipment as required in the removal of snow and ice.
- Install street barricades and cones prior to the performance of street repair activities; direct and control traffic around work sites.
- Fabricate, prepare, paint, or silk screen street markings and signs; engrave plastic signs; replace and repair street signs as necessary.
- Perform a variety of tasks in the painting of traffic markings and signs; operate street striping equipment; paint crosswalks, stop bars, stop signs, directional arrows, lane markers, parking spaces, meter posts, barricades and traffic islands.
- Assist in maintaining all City sewer lines; tear out old or damaged storm drain pipe or sewer pipe and install with new; clean and maintain storm drains, pipes and catch basins using appropriate equipment.
- Assist other staff with routine and emergency repairs and preventive maintenance on sewer lift stations; change or repair filters, sump pumps, dehumidifiers, vent fans, lighting buffers, bubbler systems, fences, ceramic seals, valves, motors and electrical and plumbing systems.
- Assist other staff in maintaining and repairing telemetry system including antennae, electrical conduit, remote transmitter units, power boxes, dry contacts and switching boxes; maintain air monitoring meters for confined space entry activities.
- Remove graffiti within the City by various means including painting, pressure washing, sand blasting, and chemical wipes; photograph various instances as necessary and download pictures.
- Monitor and repair electronic sprinkler systems and associated control devices.
- Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed.
- Maintain inventory of tools, parts, and supplies; obtain price quotes and purchase tools, parts, and supplies.
- Estimate time and materials needed for jobs assigned; requisition tools and supplies as required.
- Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints or refer to higher level staff.
- Perform related duties as required.
Minimum QualificationsThe following minimum qualifications are required to be met at the time of application.
Education:- High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:- One year of general maintenance experience is desirable.
License or Certificate:- Valid driver's license.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements AND a Flagger's card issued by the state of Nevada within the probationary period (six months).

Examination Process:
Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications and pass the examination for this position to be eligible for hire. The examination will consist of an online Written Skills Test along with a Training and Experience evaluation (T&E) weighted as follows:
- Written Skills Test = 80%
- Training & Experience Evaluation (T&E) = 20%
Online Assessment Details:Qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the online written skills test once the recruitment has closed. This test will be self-administered with no proctor, which means candidates will be able to complete them online at their convenience during the designated testing window.

Seniority Points:Employees of the City of Reno shall receive seniority credit computed by adding to a passing score as follows:
The final ranking will include the applicable seniority points added to the overall grade of the examination process. For each full year of continuous service completed, 0.2 points will be added up to a maximum of ten (10) years... 2 points will be the maximum.
Rule VIII - Promotion, Section 9. Seniority Credit.
Appointment and Certification: Appointments to positions in the City's Civil Service system are made on the basis of examination. Scores resulting from a competitive examination are used in determining a person's rank on an eligible register. The department may hire any of the persons referred. The names of those persons not hired may be considered when the next vacancy occurs, for as long as that register is viable.
