Job DescriptionInstructional Designer I $3,937.50/month Staff Position2 Positions to be FilledRELLIS CampusThe Instructional Designer I serves a team of curriculum experts developing online, instructor-led online, and face-to-face courses at the Infrastructure Training and Safety Institute at the Texas A&M University RELLIS Campus. Curriculum staff maintains a suite of courses designed for utilities, code enforcement, environment, health and safety, transportation, heavy equipment, unmanned aircraft systems, water and wastewater as well as critical infrastructure personnel. Plays part of world-class training efforts by executing an established curriculum development process that includes working with Subject Matter Experts (SME) and design team members to identify training needs, prepare learning objectives, and define and sequence course content for classroom and online learning. Utilizes knowledge of adult education theory, various learning modes, effective information, and instructional design principles to maximize learner success and ensure overall effectiveness of the training programs. Works with SMEs to review and update existing programs to adapt courses to changing industry needs and objectives. Works with the Curriculum Coordinator to establish project requirements, lead development meetings, and track and report project progress while working within the established budget and timeline limitations.
This position reports to the Curriculum Coordinator.
Required Qualifications:- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of education and experience (equivalency: will consider an Associate’s degree with two years of experience in training, curriculum development, and adult learning principles or a high school diploma/GED with four years of experience in training, curriculum development, and adult learning principles.)
- No experience required with a bachelor’s degree in an applicable field.
Other Requirements: - Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:- Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum, Instructional Design/Technology, or closely related field.
- Two years of experience in training, curriculum development, and adult learning principles.
- Knowledge of Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe Professional, and Adobe Photoshop.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:- Highly developed written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to manage projects and facilitate working groups.
- Knowledge of Bloom's taxonomy, instructional design models, adult learning principles, and graphic design.
- Ability to work in office and design software programs Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat Professional.

Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:Curriculum Design, Development, and Deployment-80%:- Designs and develops curriculum and course materials for traditional classroom training delivery programs for both the student and the instructor.
- Follows established development processes and guidelines to ensure efficiency and that curriculum meets required standards.
- Facilitates working meetings assigned to phased curriculum development efforts.
- Supports the creation of all course objectives as well as course activities and assessment elements to reinforce all learning objectives.
- Ensures the accuracy, completeness, and originality of technical documentation.
- Formats content and graphics using prescribed software.
- Creates and revises course presentation slides and instructional visual aids necessary to maintain alignment with course goals and objectives.
- Conducts focused technical reviews of all curriculum materials received for assignment for proper use of terminology, style, direction, content, grammar, diction, punctuation, and clarity, and recommends revisions or changes in scope, format, and content to ensure standardization.
- Formats, edits, proofs, prepares, and submits training manuals and other associated training materials for review by the development team and for final submission.
- Prepares and deploys documents for professional printing or publishing through other means as specified by the Curriculum Manager.
Curriculum Design Team Lead-15%:- Promotes collaboration, partnerships, and relationships among design teams.
- Works with subject matter experts, instructors, and other design team members to ensure the accuracy and validity of the training design and methodology.
- Ensures alignment exists between the curriculum, assessments, and applicable standards.
Instructional Design Projects Research and Structure-5%:- Researches and obtains available resources, permissions, and curriculum content for course development.
- Establishes project scope, timeline, goals, and objectives.
- Monitors project progress and deliver required reports.
Other Duties:- Performs additional work duties as assigned.
