Job Summary Operates and maintains a City of Bryan wastewater treatment plant on an assigned shift including weekends, holidays, and a rotating standby schedule to ensure the effective processing of wastewater and the plant is operating in accordance with regulatory authority outlined in the site’s Texas Commission on Environmental Quality ( TCEQ ) permit.
Essential Job Functions - Takes samples, tests, and records results and ensures plant is operating within TCEQ permit guidelines.
- Responsible for maintaining log book.
- Keeps plant equipment in operable condition; ensures equipment has proper preventative maintenance and inspections.
- Ensures SCADA system is operating properly.
- Cleans plant infrastructure as needed.
- Schedules pickup for sludge.
- Performs related duties as required.
- Responds regularly and promptly to work.
Minimum Qualifications - High School Diploma/ GED .
- At least two (2) years of work experience in a plant environment, preferably in a wastewater treatment plant OR work experience performing semi-skilled and/or skilled manual labor that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the job.
Equivalent combinations of related education, experience, certification and training may also be considered.
Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements - Must possess a Class C driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Must possess a Class D Wastewater license or the ability to obtain the license within 6 months of employment. A Class C Wastewater license must be obtained within the timeframe set by the department.
- Must successfully pass an annual pulmonary function test and respirator fit test to determine ability to function while wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus ( SCBA ) during emergency operations.
- Must submit to a TB test during employment as required. (Note: An initial TB test will be required during the post-offer physical examination. A negative test result must be received in order to be considered for employment.)
