    What You'll Be Doing

    Are you a highly motivated person with experience in commercial real estate? If yes, The Wake County Department of Tax Administration is seeking a new team member to join our expanding team of Senior Appraisers. As a Senior Appraiser you will perform real estate appraisals of commercial properties for ad valorem tax purposes. Your goal will be to provide fair and equitable tax assessments for a wide range of property types.     Essential functions include:
    • Specialize in commercial property valuation for countywide revaluation and annual listing periods
    • Data review and analysis of replacement cost new, market-sales comparison and income potential
      Review complex I&E statements to determine value
    • Analysis of different commercial lease types
    • Visit properties and gather physical and economic information to appraise properties
    • Revalue land due to splits, combinations, new parcel creation and zoning changes
    • Review information supplied by taxpayers and perform analysis to support and defend values during all levels of appeals
    • Assist with other tasks as determined by real property managers
    • Provide technical guidance and leadership to the staff in the absence of Appraisal Manager


    About Our Team

    The Department of Tax Administration serves the citizens of Wake County by appraising, assessing and listing all real estate and personal property within the county, its fifteen municipalities and related service districts. The Department is responsible for the collection of all current and delinquent taxes on such property excluding registered motor vehicles. Consistently leading the state in property tax collection, Department of Tax Administration staff have been recognized over the years for leadership and computer system innovation, including being awarded the Certificate of Excellence in Assessment Administration by the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO). With over 435,000 parcels, properties in Wake County range from vacant land to single family residences to apartment buildings to commercial high rises, all needing to be assessed fairly and equitably. Our office encourages continued professional growth through working towards IAAO designations and other continuing education opportunities.     The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

    • Associate's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field
    • Four years of experience in real or commercial property appraisal
    • North Carolina Department of Revenue - Real Property Appraiser I within one year of employment
    • Valid drivers license and "safe" driving record
    • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

    Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

    • Four years of experience in commercial/industrial appraisal or a certified residential or general designation by the North Carolina Appraisal Board
    • IAAO designation or candidate for RES or CAE. SRA, ASA or other certification

    Hiring Range: 81,334 - 102,423

    Market Range: 60,244.00 - 102,423.00
