    What You'll Be Doing

    General Services Administration Department (GSA) has an opening for a Deputy Director. This position serves as one of the two Deputy Director positions within the department. The position will provide leadership and oversight to several operating divisions consisting of Physical Plant, Facility and Field Services, Business Administration, Safety and Security and/or Fleet Operations. The portfolio of divisions will be determined by the candidate’s experience and expertise.

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Provides daily facility and fleet maintenance and operations expertise for the County’s complex building and fleet portfolio through business process improvements, project management, data analytics, leadership, innovation, critical thinking and fiscal responsibilities
    • Oversees capital improvement projects (CIP), specializing in core building life cycle upgrades, stormwater, flood control, paving, corporate and detention security, IT network and environmental conservation measures
    • Works to improve customer service delivery to facilitate continuous improvement, timely communication, customer feedback, transparency with stakeholders and accountability
    • Supports building and sustaining an inclusive culture by fostering collaboration, promoting equity and ensuring diverse perspectives are value and integrated into decision making processes
    • Provides oversight of operating and capital budgets that are delegated to the operating divisions and administration
    • Develops and refines the GSA Business Plan, Corporate Plans and Countywide and Departmental policies and procedures
    • Supervises assigned staff by coaching, setting goals and conducting performance reviews
    • Collaborates with multiple and widely diversified county, municipal, state, federal and private groups and serves on various committees
    • Serves as the departmental lead in the absence of the GSA Director

    The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

    • Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or related field
    • Seven years of experience in facilities or construction management including at least three years of supervisory experience
    • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

    Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, civil, structural), Landscape Architecture, or Environmental Design
    • Master’s degree in Public Administration, Facility Management, Business Administration, Accounting/Budgeting
    • Civil Engineer, Environmental, or Mechanical PE in the state of NC
    • Project Management Professional Certification

    • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, public sector fleet operations, field operations, safety and security and/or developing and managing capital and operating budgets, public sector accounting and fiscal management

    • Knowledge of workplace safety practices and PPE to conform with OSHA requirements

    Hiring Range: 155,000 - 175,000

    Market Range: 111,769.00 - 201,192.00
