What You'll Be DoingThe Wake County Human Service’s Economic Self-Sufficiency division has over 225 Eligibility Caseworkers who provide critical resources for the citizens of Wake County. Case managers determine eligibility based on factors such as income, family size, medical information, medical evaluations/ health conditions, resources, deductible expenses, and needs. Applications are processed in NCFAST (the electronic case management system) and OnBase (the document management system) to issue benefits and perform case management functions. The case managers spend the majority of time within NCFAST and OnBase to determine the clients’ eligibility. With Cooler temperatures here, Wake County families need your help keeping warm this season. Are you energetic and interested in working with the Energy Team? This work will allow you to assist low income families who experience heating, or cooling related crisis. We are seeking an Energy Assistance - Eligibility Caseworker II to join this dedicated team.
Daily responsibilities will include:
- Interviewing individuals to obtain the necessary information to determine their eligibility; providing clients appropriate information about economic benefits, referrals to community resources and other services
- Requesting the verification needed to determine eligibility according to program policy; evaluating information and making eligibility determinations
- Entering required data into computer systems to authorize their benefits
- Providing back up, working reports, providing accurate and timely documentation, and utilizing a document management system for caseload management
**This position may have to work occasionally out of an alternative Wake County or Community-Based location after hours or on weekends, during high-peak season. This position is required to work in office for 6 months or until quality work standards are met prior to working a hybrid schedule and may be deployed back to the office without notice. In-person training will be held at the Swinburne location. This position may have to work overtime during high peak periods

The Basics (Required Education and Experience) - High school degree or GED
- Three years of job-related experience
- Valid driver's license and a safe driving record may be required.
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience) - Experience determining eligibility for a State or County Department of Social Services program (Medicaid, Food and Nutrition Services, Work First, Child Care Subsidy, Child Support, WIC or Energy Assistance Program)
- Experience in a Human Services Technician role supporting any Human Services program in a county or state Department of Human Services or Social Services agency
- Proficiency in calculating budgets
- One (1) year or more of determining income eligibility for Energy Assistance or related programs
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with customers by understanding and responding to identified needs
How Will We Know You're 'The One'? - You will have knowledge of NCFAST for Energy Assistance programs
- Experience applying complex policy to determine client budgets
- Ability to interpret policy and translate complex concepts to the public
- Demonstrated experience meeting performance goals within a deadline driven environment
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to thrive in an environment with frequent changes
- Proficient with basic computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Word and Excel) and NCFAST, Hyland OnBase (PRIME), and OLV
