    Typical Duties

    The County of Tulare, California is seeking two Deputy County Counsel (Classification: Civil Attorney, Levels I-V) for their Resource Team, providing transactional legal services and expertise to support operations across County departments and agencies. The Resource Team provides high-quality, general legal services to Tulare County, its internal departments, and external partner agencies. Both Deputy County Counsel will collaborate closely with the County’s Land Use Planning/Development and Public Works Agencies, assisting with contracts, and play a key role in defending the County against litigation related to land use and environmental law issues. They will frequently interact with client departments, the Board of Supervisors, and the County Administrative Officer, and review agenda items submitted by clients. With the County’s expected growth in the coming years, both professionals will assist in legal matters of land use and development, including supporting the acquisition of real estate property through purchase, lease, or eminent domain. While prior experience in public civil law is highly desired, an ideal candidate for the Deputy County Counsel role will most importantly be a collaborative team player, politically astute, and customer service-focused, offering strategic legal guidance while maintaining strong relationships and fostering a solutions-oriented approach.     Minimum Qualifications

    Salary & Benefits

    Candidates will be qualified at the level corresponding with their experience as detailed above. Levels will receive a salary of:

    Level I: $79,710-$97,145

    Level II: $90,689-$110,526

    Level III: $106,307-$129,560

    Level IV: $120,716-$147,121

    Level V: $130,578-159,140

    PLUS an attractive benefits package that includes:

    Conditions of Employment

    Candidates selected will be required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. Additionally, a background investigation may also be conducted, which may include a re-investigation every 10 years for some positions.     Benefit Amount: An annualbenefit amountis provided and may be applied towards health insurance premiums (medical, dental, vision, life and long-term disability).This benefit is pro-rated and paid on a pay period basis (24 pay periods).

    Health Insurance: A choice of PPO and HMOmedical plans which include PPOand HMO dental plans andinclude dentalandvision coverage. Dependent coverage is available. Providers include Anthem Blue Cross, Kaiser Permanente, Delta Dental, andVision Services Plan (VSP). .

    Retirement : The retirement plan is a defined benefit plan administered pursuant to the 1937 Act County Employees Retirement Act and integrated with Social Security. In addition to ordinary retirement benefits, the plan provides disability and death benefits. Retirement contributions are made by both the County and the employee. The County has reciprocity with the State of California, contracting PERS agencies, and all County 1937 Act Retirement Systems.

    Paid Holiday Leave : 12 set days and 1 personal holiday.

    Vacation Accrual :

    2 weeks per year (0-3 years of service)
    3 weeks per year (3-7 years of service)
    4 weeks per year (7-11 years of service)
    5 weeks per year (11+ years of service)
    Limit of 300 hours.

    FLSA exempt employees accrue an additional 5 days of vacation per year.

    Sick Leave Accrual : 12 days per year with unlimited accumulation, 48 hours of which may be used toward family sick leave.

    Group Term Life Insurance : $10,000; Provided by Standard Insurance Company.

    Long Term Disability Insurance: A Long Term Disability plan is provided. This provides financial protection for you by paying a portion of your income while you are disabled. Provided by Standard Insurance Company.

    Employees are covered by State Disability Insurance. The premium is paid by the employee.

    Deferred Compensation : A voluntary deferred compensation plan is available.
