    Overview

Join Our Team as a Civil Engineer II or III!

Are you ready to put your civil engineering skills to work on projects that truly make a difference? At Larimer County, we’re looking for a dedicated Civil Engineer to join our talented Engineering team. This is a chance to contribute to meaningful work while advancing your career in a supportive and collaborative environment.

Our Engineering Department is involved in a wide range of exciting efforts, including development review, floodplain and stormwater management, road and bridge improvement projects, traffic engineering, and asset management. We also play a key role in land acquisition and support local communities by helping maintain and repair neighborhood subdivision roads.

This position offers a predictable Monday through Friday schedule, with typical 8-hour workdays between 7:30 AM and 5:00 PM. While occasional evening meetings or presentations may be part of the role, weekend work is rare. After the probation period, you’ll even have the option to work from home one day per week.

If you’re looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful impact while growing professionally, we’d love to hear from you!

    Responsibilities

    What You'll Be Doing:
    • Reviewing engineering and technical aspects of land use and development proposals for public and private projects, including concept-level feedback, construction plans, and technical reports for compliance with County standards and regulations.
    • Preparing written comments on submitted construction plans, technical reports, utility plans, and design data, ensuring compliance with engineering principles, County standards, and regulations related to site development, stormwater drainage, and street design.
    • Writing technical review comments and presenting County positions on engineering matters at public meetings and hearings with the Board of County Commissioners and Planning Commission.
    • Assisting applicants and collaborating with the Community Development Department on land use and development issues.
    • Reviewing grading, erosion control, sediment, and stormwater management plans for compliance with County standards, and supporting administration of the County MS4 permit program as needed.
    • Overseeing construction phases of land development projects, including field inspections of engineering, stormwater, water quality, floodplain, and other development-related projects to ensure compliance with plans and standards.
    • Acting as a technical resource for the public, consultants, developers, County Boards, and staff, including responding to inquiries about access, drainage, grading, floodplain, and stormwater discharge.
    • Contributing to the development or revision of County standards, policies, and procedures.

    • Ability to perform engineering computations and interpret plats, engineering plans, studies, models, and reports for compliance with County standards and Codes.
    • Familiarity with specifications, methods, materials, and techniques used in land development and stormwater construction projects.
    • Understanding of stormwater drainage systems, floodplain management, and local design standards such as the Mile High Flood Control District Criteria Manual and associated hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tools.
    • Strong communication skills, including the ability to convey complex information clearly and persuasively in writing, verbally, and in public settings.
    • Experience presenting to County boards, commissions, and diverse audiences with varied interests.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
