Starting Pay - $15.50 hour For more details, review the full job details and requirements below. The Historic Site Guide is responsible for engaging visitors and organized tour groups in hands-on, living history activities at the Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site for daily programming and special events. This role sssists with preparation, planning, set-up, and take-down of program materials in addition to handling admissions/reception and gift shop duties.
Key Responsibilities - Conducts educational activities for children and adults; greets and registers visitors and issues any required identification badges or safety devices; analyzes clients' ages and ability levels to plan instruction and commentary that are appropriate.
- Learns 19th century historical processes to demonstrate for visitors and involve visitors in those processes, such as quilting, sewing, wood stove cooking, gardening, carpentry, blacksmithing, planting and harvesting field crops with hand tools.
- Monitors visitors' activities to ensure compliance with establishment or tour regulations and safety practices; assists visitors in safely entering and exiting the site stagecoaches for rides; provides for physical safety of groups, performing such activities as providing first aid and directing emergency evacuations.
- Distributes brochures, answers general questions, shows audiovisual presentations, and provides other pertinent information to visitors; solicits tour patronage and operates gift shop.
- Assembles and checks the required supplies and equipment prior to program delivery.
Qualifications Experience: A minimum of six months related experience working with audiences of varying ages is required.
Education: A h igh school diploma or GED is required.
Licenses & Certifications: None required.
Language: Proficiency with verbal and written English language required. Additional proficiency with Spanish and American Sign Language preferred.
Environmental or Physical Demands: Must be able to work indoors and outside in heat and cold, lift 40 pounds, climb, and descend stairs, and traverse uneven ground.
