Reporting relationship: Assistant Chief Engineer reports to the Deputy Director/Chief Engineer of MoDOT. This is a highly responsible position which serves at the pleasure of and is accountable to the Chief Engineer. Accountable to the Assistant Chief Engineer is the External Civil Rights Director, Multimodal Operations Director, State Bridge Engineer, State Construction and Materials Engineer, State Design Engineer, and Transportation Planning Director.
Principal Responsibilities:The assistant chief engineer provides leadership and oversight to the department's technical engineering functions.
What you’ll do: - Serves as primary advisor regarding engineering issues.
- Directs and oversees all technical and engineering activities in order to achieve department goals and objectives; provides resources to division leaders to accomplish division objectives.
- Supports the development of innovative solutions to Missouri's transportation needs; directs and oversees the implementation of innovations.
- Directs and analyzes studies of general engineering and business conditions and their impact on the department's policies and operations.
- Ensures all right of way acquisitions and roadway and bridge activities are performed in compliance with local, state, and federal laws governing business operations.
- Serves as a liaison for department with other state agencies and stakeholders on administrative engineering issues.
- Meets with groups and associations to deliver speeches and answer questions; represents the department concerning engineering matters; coordinates the department's response for director's approval on engineering issues.
All you need for success:Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university curriculum
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of Missouri
- Over nine years of progressively responsible management experience in highway or transportation engineering including senior level management experience
Special Working Conditions: - Job requires regular, statewide, overnight travel.
- Job directly supervises division directors in the associated functional areas.
