    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

    Producing videos for Texas Parks and Wildlife involves travel around the state. Though the position is based in Austin, up to 25% percent of your time may be spent traveling Texas. Our state is vast and unique, and so are the stories we tell. While out on the road you will shoot stories about hunting, fishing, state parks, outdoor recreation and wildlife conservation, returning to edit them into entertaining and informative videos for broadcast, web, and social media.

    Under the direction of the Media Production Manager, the Video Producer performs advanced (senior-level) media production work including researching, writing, lighting, shooting, and off-line and on-line editing. The video producer will create internal video content for the agency, the main component being the yearly Employee Award videos. This producer will be a skilled storyteller with the ability to produce both long form stories, and short social media pieces. The producer will be skilled in post-production, video graphics, and all social media platforms. Travels 30% of the time covering stories all across the state. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.


    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education :

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Photojournalism, Radio-TV-Film, Communications, or related field.

    Experience :

    Four years of experience in field-based documentary-style video production.

    Licensure :

    Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid Texas Class "C" driver's license.

    NOTE : Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required license.

    ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS :

    Education :

    One additional year experience in field-based documentary-style video production may substitute for thirty semester hours of the required education, with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours.

    Experience :

    Graduation with a Master's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university may substitute for two years of the required experience.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

    Licensure :

    Currently FAA Part 107 certified to pilot drone.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :

    Knowledge (in-depth) of agency functions, policies, procedures.

    Knowledge (in-depth) of high-end video production, video storytelling, and post-production techniques and procedures.

    Knowledge of news and communication media.

    Knowledge of various social media platforms.

    Knowledge of editing and preparing informational material.

    Knowledge of copy layout.

    Knowledge of publishing and broadcast industries.

    Skill in the use of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

    Skill (demonstrable) in all aspects of documentary-style video production, including: researching, writing, shooting, editing, sound mixing, and post-production.

    Skill in editorial and design concepts and practices.

    Ability to design and produce a video project related to the goals and priorities of the agency and to fit specific communication needs.

    Ability to use non-linear editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere).

    Ability to use video camera packages and DSLR camera packages (e.g., Sony FS7, Sony FS5, and Panasonic GH-5).

    Ability to use motion graphics and visual effects (e.g., Adobe After effects).

    Ability to manage multiple, high-profile projects at once.

    Ability to communicate highly complex and sensitive information to a general audience.

    Ability to utilize databases to archive and retrieve program information.

    Ability to research and prepare information.

    Ability to design communication plans and materials related to the goals and priorities of the agency.

    Ability to compose usable content for the Web and social media.

    Ability to prepare copy and scripts.

    Ability to design broad communications plans and materials.

    Ability to supervise the work of others.

    Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.

    Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

    Required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and significant amounts of overtime, as needed.

    Required to carry heavy gear long distances, often in adverse outdoor conditions.

    Required to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.

    Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures.

    Required to travel 25% with possible overnight stays.

    Required to operate a State vehicle.

    Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
