    Groundskeeper

    $18.00/hour

    The Groundskeeper, under supervision, performs ground maintenance including mowing, weed eating, brush clearing, and trash pick-up. Assists full-time employees with assigned FMC tasks including but not limited to class clean-up such as cleaning thelunchroom, removing hay from hay-burning projects, and equipment storage. May be required to assist other programs such as Industrial, SCBA, Mechanics, andExtinguishers with facilities/class operations.

    This position reports to theConstruction Foreman.

    Required Qualifications:
    • High school diploma or GED.
    • Six months of related experience in grounds maintenance.


    Required Licenses/Certifications:
    • Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Any building trades, maintenance, or lawn care experience including any combination of the following: concrete, heavy equipment operation, and use of hand/power tools.


    Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
    • Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions year-round, potential allergens, and elevated noise levels.
    • Ability to travel independently by driving to other TEEX facilities.
    • Physical conditioning consistent with movement/lifting heavy equipment using assisted-lift equipment, standing, walking, sitting, climbing, bending/stooping, kneeling/squatting, reaching, talking, hearing, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling.


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Ability to safely operate a Bobcat, Forklift, Industrial Mowers, and various types of vehicles. Training will be provided before the operation of heavy equipment.
    • Must be mechanically inclined.
    • Ability to follow instructions and communicate in English to perform job responsibilities.
    • Ability to interact positively with students, vendors, and staff.
    • Excellent organizational skills.
    • Working knowledge of lawn equipment or the ability to learn how to work lawn equipment.


    Equipment:
    • Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone.
    • Heavy equipment such as bobcats, forklifts, and industrial mowers.
    • Weed eaters, push mowers, trucks and mules.
    • Power equipment such as drills (drill press, hammer drills, magnetic and cordless), saws (table, circular, miter, band, saws all, chain saws, and chop saws), torches (oxygen/acetylene, plasma), grinders, etc.
    • Occasional use of agency vehicles.


    Notifications:
    • This position is security sensitive.
    • This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
    • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
    • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.
    • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle and/or flying on commercial airlines.
    • This is a wage position established to accommodate a temporary organizational need. As such, TEEX does not guarantee any set number of hours or length of employment in this role.


    Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:

    Lawn Care - 90%
    • Performs grounds maintenance such as mowing,andweed eating around projects/classrooms, and various fuel lines.
    • Picks up trash at and around training projects, shelters, buildings, roadways, and lunchrooms.
    • Performs brush clearing around trees, ponds, and fence lines.
    • Applies herbicide/insecticide as required.


    Class Support - 5%
    • Assists with the preparation and clean-up of classes.
    • Prepares projects for training by delivering and placing training equipment, setting up of classrooms and lunch areas, andassisting with the restoration of training projects by securing the equipment in designated storage areas.
    • Assists other programs such as Industrial, SCBA, Mechanics, andExtinguishers with facilities/class operations which may include valving burn projects, refilling SCBA/ Extinguishers, or helping the mechanic shop upon request.


    Supply Acquisition - 5%
    • Occasionally pick up materials, supplies and equipment from local vendors.


    Other Duties:
    • Complies with thework schedule provided, maintains a set work schedule, and reports to work and duty assignments on time per the provided class schedule.
    • Maintains a clean and neat appearance.
    • Shows safety awareness and demonstrates safe working habits/practices.
    • Ensures that buildings and property are secured when unattended.
    • Takes all appropriate measures to prevent loss, theft, or damage to any TEEX property.
    • Immediately report any loss, theft, or damage to TEEX property to any supervisor.
    • Attends scheduled safety meetings.
    • Completes listed training to include ESTI Safety Orientation, Basic First Aid, and in-house training before operation (Mule, Toro Mower, Forklift, and Bobcat).
    • Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and specified uniforms as required.
    • Performs additional work duties as assigned.
