Duties Description
The Trades Generalist will be responsible for a primary trade in one of the following: carpentry, plumbing, electric, motor equipment, small engine repair or masonry. Trades Generalists across the various trades have one responsibility in common: performing a variety of skilled and semiskilled maintenance, repair, installation, and construction tasks in the mechanical, building, motor equipment and electrical trades. Duties include but are not limited to:
• Design and execute plans needed to accomplish projects, which includes all required maintenance work, such as building structures; repairs to roofs, windows, doors, and floor installation; and plumbing and electrical repairs.
• Prioritize repair projects to meet the immediate needs of the parks/facilities.
• Maintain adequate levels of supplies, tools, and equipment to accomplish tasks; make necessary purchases following all Agency purchasing guidelines.
• Operate and complete daily maintenance procedures for tractors, trucks, backhoe, skid steer and other equipment.
• Use and maintain small equipment, such as generators, power washer, miter saw, table saw, hand tools, etc.
• Install concrete formwork for sidewalks, foundations, concrete pads, etc.
• Repair and maintain all facilities and equipment, including buildings - both stone and concrete block and wooden, other structures, and mechanical installations.
• Install new piping, maintain, and repair the water and sewer systems.
• Use a chainsaw to fell and remove trees.
• Assist with maintenance of roads, paths, and trails.
• May be required to supervisor lower-level staff.
• May be assigned to deployment details to support storm clean-up or other emergency responses. Deployments may require overtime and/or travel.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of full-time experience* in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
*If verifiable, we will accept and prorate part-time and volunteer experience.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.

OPERATING NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to operate a vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must possess and maintain a valid NYS Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or obtain one within the probationary period as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
• Must complete Game of Logging (Levels 1, 2, and 3) or approved equivalent as well as other associated trainings by the end of the probationary period or at the next class offering as a term and condition of employment.
• Must possess or complete lift training and fall protection training within the probationary period as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be able to supervisor others and act independently with a minimum of supervision.
• Must be able to plan, layout, and diagnose maintenance problems and read plans and specifications.
• Must be able to operate heavy equipment, such as tractors, backhoes, and skid steers
***Under the provisions of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The candidate is required to participate in pre-employment, random and post-accident drug, and alcohol testing.
