Duties Description
Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor at James Baird State Park Regional Maintenance facility, the selected candidate’s duties include, but are not limited to:
• Assisting with managing the cleanliness of the Regional Maintenance Building by cleaning restrooms, emptying trash, cleaning offices, and other work areas.
• Ordering, purchasing, processing payments as well as receiving, distributing, and inventorying supplies, materials, and equipment.
• Clearing sidewalks in the winter to maintain safe walkways for visitors.
• Entering computer data, such as park attendance, reviewing employee payroll and timecard submission, training employees to use LATS and other programs as needed.
• Gaining an understanding of statewide databases and systems.
• Maintaining records, including those pertaining to daily maintenance, hazardous trees, trucks, automated external defibrillators (AED), fire extinguishers, site supplies and assets, and the internal work order system.
• Tracking inventory of fleet vehicles and equipment and reporting vehicle information to Albany Office as needed.
• Assisting in emergency situations by applying emergency procedures and practices; assisting and directing staff; and working with patrons to minimize potential problems.
• Responding to phone calls and email and prioritizing office’s critical needs and communicating them to the regional maintenance team.
• Manufacturing small signs using a small sign machine.
• May supervise lower-level staff.
Minimum Qualifications
One year of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility. In addition to operations and maintenance, the following types of experience are also qualifying law enforcement or security, firefighting, environmental education, environmental stewardship, natural resource management, forest management, wildlife management or preservation, or historic preservation or interpretation, OR
One year of military service in any of the military branches; OR
An Associate’s or higher-level degree, or 60 credit hours of college level coursework; OR
Completion of an appropriate two-year technical / trades school program or two years' experience as a trade’s assistant under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The CSEA contracts allow for salary protection for seasonal / hourly employees who are appointed to permanent graded positions with lower hiring rates under certain circumstances. We encourage OPRHP seasonal / hourly applicants to check in with your Regional Business Office Administrator to inquire about the potential impact on your salary. Do not assume that you will lose salary! Also, it should be noted that you will be eligible for regular salary / performance advances (i.e. salary increases) as a permanent graded employee which seasonal / hourly employees are not eligible to receive.
OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to operate a vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must understand that duties vary and work location alternates between facilities if operationally needed.
• Must possess experience with Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Must possess experience with customer service and effective communication.
• Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays based on operational needs and emergencies.
