Description THE POSITION: Under general direction, performs professional engineering and administrative work at an advanced level and assists the Public Works Director in planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the various divisions of the department; and performs other work as required.
Representative DutiesAssists in planning, organizing, and activities of the department and acts for the director in his absence; assists in determining departmental policy and confers with departmental superintendents on matters of the department; answers public inquiries regarding policy; makes studies, investigations, and reports to assist the director in making presentations to the City Manager or City Council. Minimum QualificationsApplications will be accepted

- Registered as a Civil Engineer in the State of California; AND
- Eight (8) years of progressively responsible professional experience in civil engineering including field and office work
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS - Knowledge of government purchasing processes and contract negotiation.
- Experience or familiarity with RFP’s, RFQ’s, and the design-build process.
- Experience with large-scale design and construction projects. Knowledge of engineering standards and the processes by which change orders, allowances, performance incentives, and liquidated damage are managed.
- Experience with roadway repurposing, complete streets, intelligent transportations system, pedestrian and bicycle facility planning, traffic calming, etc.
- Experience with Public Works operations related to street maintenance, fleet services, solid waste collection and processing, facility and electrical maintenance, and sewer collection maintenance.
- Experience or familiarity with developing an operations budget and/or capital improvement program budget.
Examination (Weighted: 100%) EXAMINATION: ORAL APPRAISAL INTERVIEW (Weighted 100%): Week of January 20, 2025 (Tentative) An appraisal will be made of the applicant's experience, education, training, certification, knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal qualifications for the position. A minimum passing score of 70% is required.

VACATION: Accrual rate is determined by bargaining unit.
1-4 years of service: 10 days per year.
5-13 years of service: 15 days per year.
14+ years of service: 20 days per year.
VACATION - FIRE SAFETY SHIFT PERSONNEL ONLY:
1-4 years of service: 4.68 (24-hr. duty shifts)
5-15 years of service: 7.02 (24-hr. duty shifts)
16+ years of service: 9.36 (24-hr. duty shifts)
HOLIDAYS: 13 paid holidays per year.
SICK LEAVE: Earned at the rate of one working day per month of service to a maximum of 120 days; portions therafter may be convertible.
ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE: 10 days per year for General Supervisory and Management employees.
