    The Position

    In either a consultation or an enforcement mode, Industrial Hygienists identify, evaluate, and recommend controls for health hazards in the workplace through conducting inspections, investigations, surveys, research and analysis involving scientific disciplines such as chemistry, physics, engineering, epidemiology, toxicology, physiology, infection control, biomechanical and human factors engineering, and occupational health.

    Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.

    This Industrial Hygienist 1 position is an underfill within the Division of Industrial Relations, Mine Safety and Training Section (MSATS) located in Elko Nevada. MSATS is regulated by Nevada Revised Statute (NRS) Chapter 512, which aims to reduce the frequency and severity of mine accidents by providing training to miners and mine operators. Industrial Hygienist for MSATS are responsible for conducting industrial hygiene assessments/surveys at mines, both above ground and underground, mills, quarries, and related facilities; investigate mine accidents; conduct/provide training to mine employees, and provide technical assistance and consultation to mine operators. Incumbents may be required to use personal vehicle to conduct State business. Working shifts other than 8:00am to 5:00pm may be required, to include weekends. This position works within the Mine Safety and Training Section and will be located in Elko, NV.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in industrial hygiene, occupational safety and health, chemistry, physics, biology, toxicology, environmental engineering, or closely related field; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of professional experience with the principal duty of safety officer in an industrial or construction setting which included conducting inspections or investigations for the purpose of evaluating workplace health and safety; OR an equivalent combination of experience and education. Special Notes This position requires Standby/Call Back status. Special Requirements A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
