    The Missouri Department of Agriculture has a flexible part-time Grain Inspection Worker position available in Brunswick/De Witt, Missouri. Employees in this position expected to work a minimum of one 10-14 hour shift weekly, with seasonal fluctuations. See job details section. Supervisors work with employees based on their availability.

    Job Location: The position will be domiciled at Brunswick/De Witt, MO.Applicants must live within 30 miles of this area for timely response needs. Applicants residing outside of that radius will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Employees may occasionally be requested to work at other locations.

    Compensation

    • Base rate of $17.55/hr + 1.5x overtime pay
    • +$5.00/hr for qualifying work on shuttle trains
    • +$2.00/hr for hours worked outside of normal business hours
    • Paid twice per month
    • Paid on-the-job training
    • Flexible scheduling


    Employees in this position are expected to have reliable transportation and communication , and will be expected to utilize their own vehicle . Mileage will be reimbursed if approved travel extends outside of the Brunswick/De Witt area, including occasional trips to the office in Marshall, MO to deliver samples. The employee’s commute (residence to/from their primary work sites) is not reimbursable. Additional details will be provided prior to hire.

    A typical week includes a minimum of 1 shift that lasts 10-14 hours each with some fluctuation - this may be working as part of a team at a shuttle train, or independently at a barge loading facility. There may be weeks throughout the year where there is no work available, and weeks were there may be many shifts available. Days/times can fluctuate due to railroad volatility and may include nights and weekends (pay incentives available). While the schedule is flexible, employees must be reliable and available for a minimum of 3 full shifts (10-14 hours) per month as work arises.

    This position cannot exceed 1000 hours annually.

    Job Duties

    • Receive on-the-job training in the FGIS grain sampling and technician procedures
    • Inspect railcars, barges, trucks and/or other carriers to ensure they are in proper condition for loading and free from leaks, odors and infestation
    • Obtain representative samples of grain
    • Observe and verify the weighing of carriers by grain company employees
    • Complete work records legibly, accurately, and efficiently
    • Maintain equipment and work environments properly
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, grain businesses, others in the grain trade and the general public
    • Occasionally transport samples from the Brunswick area to the field office in Marshall, MO
    • Perform other related work as assigned


    Minimum Qualifications

    • Possession of a high school diploma or GED/equivalent
    • At least 18 years old
    • Possess a valid Driver's License
    • Adapt to variable work schedules that include nights, weekends and holidays, and that are subject to change with little notice
    • Be reliably available for a minimum of 3 full shifts per month (as work is available)
    • Have consistent & reliable means of communication (mobile phone)
    • Have consistent & reliable means of transportation, including occasionally in inclement weather
    • Ability to obtain USDA/FGIS licenses to sample and process grain within established timeframes


    Physical Considerations

    Employees in this position must be able to:

    • Regularly work in a grain elevator environment that may include factors such as loud noise, foul air, grain dust, inclement weather, extreme heights and moving machinery
    • Distinguish subtle differences in color
    • Detect subtle changes in odor
    • Occasionally work from heights, including the ability to climb stairs and ladders
    • Frequently lift a minimum of 15 pounds, and occasionally lift 50 pounds to a height of five feet with reasonable accommodations
    • Sit or stand for extended periods (several hours)


    Employees in this position may be ineligible for hire if they, their spouse, their minor children, or any relative immediately residing in their household is employed by or otherwise receives direct or indirect financial consideration from any grain elevator or warehouse, or engage in the merchandising, storage, commercial transportation, or other commercial handling of grain. If applicable, this relationship must be disclosed prior to hire.

    This is a part time non-benefited position
