    Role

    Under general supervision, performs administrative and supervisory work of considerable difficulty in the coordination, management, and oversight of assigned staff. Performs advanced legal support.

    Major Duties, Responsibilities

    • Oversees and supervises Litigation Specialists, including re-organizing for the needs of the office.
    • Plans, develops, and implements administrative tasks, including writing new procedures when necessary and updating existing ones.
    • Provides litigation support to an Attorney IV including preparing and filing pleadings, maintaining calendars, ordering and processing evidence items, scheduling defense interviews, preparing cases for trial, and staying abreast of technology changes required to perform these duties.
    • Evaluates and documents staff performance and provides constructive criticism to enhance performance.
    • Acts as point of contact for both staff and attorneys for moderate to complex legal and administrative duties.
    • Interviews, hires, and trains new staff and provides continuing training to veteran staff.
    • Maintains case statistics for reporting purposes, tracks and assigns all extraditions for Yavapai County, and stays current with extradition rules and laws in all states and other countries.
    • Identifies and investigates department issues and develops corrective action plans for potential problems.
    • Conducts and attends various unit meetings.
    • Tests new software and technology before officewide implementation.
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


    Minimum Qualifications

    Education:
    High school diploma or equivalent.

    Experience:
    A minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a criminal justice agency, law office, and/or court of law to include one (1) year of experience in a supervisory capacity.

    Additional Requirements:
    Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.

    • Pertinent legal databases.
    • Rules of Criminal Procedure and criminal justice processes for multiple courts.
    • Workflow in the legal system.
    • Legal document preparation and legal terminology.
    • Business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and composition.
    • Clerical office practices and procedures.
    • Research techniques and report writing.
    • Microsoft Office 365 software.
    • Filing and recordkeeping.

    Skill in:
    • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing and communicating orally in a face-to-face setting and by telephone with public and employees.
    • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
    • Organization and attention to detail.

    Ability to:
    • Remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties.
    • Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.
    • Maintain appropriate security and confidentiality of information.
    • Maintain meticulous work habits, including analyzing, organizing, and prioritizing vast amounts of information.
    • Accurately and thoroughly prepare legal documents.
    • Adhere to current Office policies and procedures.
    • Build rapport with individuals of various socioeconomic, religious, and ethnic backgrounds.
    • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public.
    • Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.
    • Handle confidential matters and maintain discretion always.
    • Act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.

    Work Environment:
    The work environment is associated with an office. The work area is adequately lighted, heated or cooled and ventilated.

    Physical Requirements:
    Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech ability to communicate effective in-person and telephonically. Capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
