    Minimum Qualifications
    Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
    • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus one (1) year of experience in customer service, public/municipal code enforcement, or in a related field.


    Licenses or Certifications:
    • Valid Texas Class C Driver License.
    • Must obtain CPR certification within six (6) months of hire.


    Physical Requirements:
    • Requires physical work with frequent standing and walking; lifting/carrying objects weighing up to sixty (60) pounds; reaching, bending, and stopping to mark vehicles and install vehicle immobilization devices. Requires field of vision to move quickly and safely direct traffic.

    The Mobility Services Officer is assigned to areas of the City to enforce parking regulations and enforce local transportation ordinances and state laws governing parking of vehicles; issues citations, enters data into a handheld computer, directs vehicular and pedestrian traffic, writes reports, and responds to citizen complaints ensuring a safe environment for the general public. This position requires applicants with good moral standards to work with the public to enforce parking enforcement laws and city codes. Driving record will be evaluated to ensure it meets the City’s Safety Driving Record Standards.

    Driving Requirement:

    This position requires a Valid Class “C” Texas Driver License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

    90 Day Provision for Additional Vacancy:

    If the same or an additional vacancy occurs within the Public Works Department in the same job title within 90 days after the start date of the top candidate, the additional position may be offered to another top candidate from the same candidate pool. This may include filling other vacancies with the same job title in other division/work locations within the City of Austin Public Works Department. Decisions on assigned selection may be made at the time of hire based on the business needs of the department.

    $21.63 - $23.79 per hour

    Preferred Experience:
    • Experience handling sensitive interactions with the public.
    • Experience in code and parking enforcement of local transportation ordinances and state laws governing parking of vehicles or related.
    • Experience investigating and resolving parking violation disputes.
    • Experience working with local police and county law enforcement units.
    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.


    Patrols assigned area to direct and expedite the flow of vehicular traffic by reporting, correcting, and addressing mobility issues. Enforces parking regulations and issues citations for violations of State and City laws and ordinances; testifies in court for contested hearings. Marks vehicles to detect abuse of timed areas; immobilizes or impounds vehicles or property in violation of State and City laws and ordinances. Monitors and reports major thoroughfares and intersections to identify and report inefficient roadway operations or faulty traffic signal timing and sequencing issues. Collaborates with and assists traffic engineers by reporting mobility issues. Reports roadway hazards that impede the normal traffic flow. Responds to minor traffic collisions to direct and expedite the flow of traffic. Monitors and attends installed temporary traffic barricades during special events or non-standard occurrences. Answers questions concerning parking payment options and zones and provides wayfinding assistance to the public. Completes reports, maintains logs, and responds to other correspondence from City employees and the public.

    • Ability to exercise discretion in issuance of citations and impoundment of vehicles.
    • Ability to use communication devices to include but not limited to a two-way radio or SMS and hand-held citation devices.
    • Ability to provide minor mechanical assistance to disabled vehicles.
    • Ability to work outside in all kinds of inclement weather conditions.
    • Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification.
    • Ability to quickly recognize and analyze irregular events.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with City employees and the public.
    • Ability to be certified to carry OC/pepper spray.
    • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle, moped/motorcycle, and bicycle.
    • Ability to handle physical requirements of the job.

    City Government
