THE OPPORTUNITY: The Warehouse Worker III (WWIII) performs work which requires the exercise of considerable independent judgment in the maintenance of a large warehouse as well as the inventory required under normal as well as emergency situations.
Under general supervision, the WW III orders supplies, including technical items and special orders, maintains proper stock levels in a large warehouse, and maintains records of supplies received and issued. Resolves complex discrepancies or difficulties; performs heavy labor in loading and unloading trucks; and drives vehicles, including small box trucks, vans, forklifts, and RVs to deliver supplies, mail, furniture, equipment, and other items to County agencies/departments. The position also requires driving 2-3 days per week to various facilities. Additional duties include applying standardized supply practices and procedures, filling orders from standard stock items, entering stock into inventory records, maintaining, and repairing property, equipment, and furniture in facilities, and performing other work as assigned
Examples of the primary duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Prepares requisitions for supplies and equipment to keep adequate stock on hand; orders or requisitions special items as requested; orders standard items directly from approved vendors; calls vendors to locate and order specialized or emergency parts and materials; describes items in stock and suggests substitutes.
- Expedites the procurement and delivery of materials, supplies, tools, and equipment; telephones or writes to vendors and shippers to trace overdue deliveries; arranges through the Procurement Division, changes in delivery, adjustments for incorrect or damaged supplies, and the return of excess materials for credit.
- May assemble components of modular offices and workstations.
- May perform minor repairs to renew or replace existing part or parts of a facility for maintenance purposes.
- Takes or participates in the annual physical inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Will be required to handle courier routes as a driver.
- May be assigned as lead position in location remote from supervision or assume responsibility for storeroom in supervisor's absence.
- Maintains the warehouse to ensure clean and clutter free environment.
- Receives, tracks, monitors, and maintains inventory in the warehouse.
- Will provide logistical support for outreach events.
- Over time will be required on occasion during weekends and evenings.
TRAINING AND POSITION EXPECTATIONSEmployees in this position may go through training for the assignment, including operating a forklift, using packing machinery, receiving deliveries and shipments, monitoring supplies, building furniture and shelves, and operating a vehicle similar to the size of a box truck, RV and van.
WORK SCHEDULEAppointed employees will work on a 4/10 schedule, meaning they will have four 10-hour workdays each week, with one flex day each week. This schedule may be adjusted to accommodate the department’s operational needs. Overtime may also be required occasionally, including during evenings and weekends.
NOTE: The warehouse size is approximately 40,000 square feet and the vehicle section of the warehouse is approximately 16,000 square feet. Inside the warehouse, temperature can change from hot to cold or vice versa depending on the weather. The expected walking distance daily within the warehouse is approximately a quarter mile and approximately 3 miles walking distance when driving a courier route.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & CORE COMPETENCIES:
The ideal candidate will possess two (2) or more years of experience in warehouse operations.
Possession of a Class C California Driver License is required before the date of appointment and while employed in this classification. Driving record must not have a citation for reckless driving or a citation related to driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol or other restrictions that negatively impact insurability.
Technical Knowledge and/or Experience of- Receiving, storing, and issuing of a variety of supplies and materials
- Supply flow and clerical procedures such as filing, maintaining records, indexes and invoices of items received, issued and in stock.
- Computerized inventory practices and procedures.
- Perpetual inventory methods and practices
- Basic purchasing practices and policies regarding standard stock items
- Perform elementary arithmetic computations requiring addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division and use various units of measure.
- Read, understand, and apply procedures relating to the maintenance of supply records, requisitions, and purchase orders.
- Safety practices in lifting over 50 pounds or carry objects weighing over 25 pounds, and storing materials

- Provide lead direction to Warehouse Workers in the absence of the supervisor.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS - Social Services Agency (SSA) Candidates will be required to undergo a background clearance check from the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) and Community Care Licensing (CCL) and must successfully clear prior to the start of their employment. Areas considered in the background check include conviction history, employment history, professional references, and education verification (i.e., degree, license, or official transcripts) if applicable.
