CITY GOVERNMENT
The City of Wichita Falls operates under the Council-Manager form of government. The City Council consists of a Mayor, five district representatives, and one at-large representative with each member of the Council serving three-year terms. The City Council appoints the City Manager, City Attorney, City Clerk, and Municipal Court Judge. The City delivers a comprehensive range of services through an FY 2025 budget of $242 million and with 1,268 full-time employees.
THE CITY ATTORNEY’S OFFICE
The City Attorney’s Office provides a service to the citizens of Wichita Falls, by effecting efficient, active legal representation and defense of lawsuits filed against the City of Wichita Falls. Its staff includes the City Attorney, two Deputy City Attorneys, a Senior Assistant City Attorney, the Municipal Court Prosecutor, an Executive Legal Assistant, and a Municipal Court Prosecutor Legal Secretary.
THE POSITION
The purpose of this position is to prosecute criminal cases at the Wichita Falls Municipal Court of Record as well as provide legal advice, counsel and representation to City officials in various legal matters. This is accomplished by representing officials in investigations and proceedings, defending the city and officials in claims filed, meeting with the public to discuss violations, issuing subpoenas, meeting with officers and witnesses on cases, preparing and evaluating cases for trial, and drafting motions. Other duties include interacting with external counsel, drafting ordinances, interpreting laws, completing legal research, and reviewing and signing various contracts and permits.
SALARY & BENEFITS
The City of Wichita Falls provides a competitive compensation and benefits package. The salary for this role is $85,000 to $107,000, with placement within the range dependent on qualifications and experience. Key elements of the City’s benefits program include retirement provided through the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS). Employees contribute 7% of their salary with a City match of 2:1 plus interest, upon retirement. Employees vest with 5 years of service and are eligible to retire with 25 years of service at any age, or with 10 years of service at age 60. A 457 Deferred Compensation Retirement Plan is also available; the option to work a 9/80 work schedule; enrollment in options for medical, dental, and vision insurance; vacation leave at a rate of 4 hours per pay period; sick leave at a rate of 4.62 hours per pay period; and ten paid holidays, plus one floating holiday are provided per year.

Licensure: Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Texas.
