    Training Coordinator

    Transportation & Heavy Equipment

    The Training Coordinator, under direction of the Infrastructure Training and Safety Institute (ITSI) Transportation & Heavy Equipment Training Manager, coordinates training schedules and deliveries, works with the point of contact at host agencies, and markets/sells training and technical assistance. Responsible for coordinating instructors, monitoring performance and for courses delivered under the Transportation, Heavy Equipment & CDL Programs.

    Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (equivalency:will consider an Associate’s Degree with four years of related experience in project coordination, management, and/or delivery of adult training or a High School Diploma or GED with six years of related experience in project coordination, management, and/or delivery of adult training)
    • Two years of related experience in project coordination, management, and/or delivery of adult training.


    Required Licenses/Certifications:
    • Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
    • Must have a valid Class A CDL or ability to obtain within 180 days of employment.
    • Ability to obtain TDPS CDL 3rd party examiners certificate within one year of employment.


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • First aid and CPR certification.


    Physical Requirements:
    • Must be able to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, and heat during instruction.
    • Must have physical conditioning consistent with setting up classrooms, movement of heavy training equipment and instructional materials.
    • Must be able to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines.


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Working knowledge of Texas Department of Public Safety and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and video applications specifically Teams, Webex, and Zoom.
    • Knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instructing individuals and groups.
    • Strong verbal and written communication.
    • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to prioritize, organize, and shift focus while being efficient.
    • Ability to interact with clients and staff positively and professionally within groups of various sizes.
    • Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude and work ethic.
    • Ability to exhibit punctuality by arriving at work and scheduled events on time.
    • Ability to develop new business as well as maintain current clients.
    • Ability to assist in the design of new course curriculum and update current curriculum.
    • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

    Equipment:
    • Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone.
    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary.
    • Backhoe, excavator, forklift, front-end loader, skid steer, & commercial vehicles etc.
    • Training equipment and props.


    Notifications:
    • This position is security sensitive.
    • This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
    • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
    • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.
    • As part of TEEX’s mission of providing training, developing practical solutions, and saving lives; this position could be required, if called upon, to deploy within the State of Texas as directed by this position’s Division Director/HQ Department Head.
    • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle and/or flying on commercial airlines.
    • Texas DPS and FMCSA Regulation requires a valid commercial driver’s license on approved Texas CDL Third Party Skills Testing Examiners.As a result, this position is subject to pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screening as required by DPS and FMCSA Regulation.
    • May regularly direct and/or evaluate the work of others.
    • Must maintain Texas Department of Public Safety and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requirements for Designated Responsible Person.


    Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:

    Training Coordination - 80%
    • Coordinates training for the Texas CDL Skills Testing Program.
    • Serves as Designated Responsible Person for Texas CDL testing program.
    • Designs, develops, coordinates, and conducts Texas CDL training to include the approval process to be an approved training provider for Federal Motor Carrier Administrations.
    • Coordinates all aspects for Texas CDL testing to include scheduling examinee, examiner, and site approval.
    • Conducts trainer and course audits to ensure compliance with the terms of Texas Department of Public Safety/Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration.
    • Coordinates training for the Transportation & Heavy Equipment program.
    • Coordinates exams and assists in the preparation of the training schedule that includes instructor assignments.
    • Periodically monitors instructors and course deliveries.
    • Participates in the hiring, training, and the assignment of tasks for staff.
    • Supervises assigned staff, evaluates performance, provides coaching, feedback, and addresses issues as necessary.
    • Actively coordinates and participates in team meetings and events.
    • Assists staff with the review and updating of program curriculum.


    Administrative Support - 20%
    • Collects and manages all required documentation on examinees.
    • Submits monthly reports to Texas Department of Public Safety.
    • As required, must maintain monthly financial and course delivery progress reports.
    • Supports and assists the Training Manager as needed.
    • Markets Agency and Division programs and events to potential customers and students.
    • Assists program business development by helping customers and students determine training and technical assistance needs.
    • Responds to customer leads and builds and maintains relationships with program customers and students.


    Other Duties:
    • Participates in professional development opportunities.
    • Maintains a clean and professional appearance and work area.
    • Maintains and safeguards assigned divisional equipment and property.
    • Performs additional work duties as assigned.
