    Overview

    The District Attorney's Office seeks an applicant for our Deputy District Attorney I, who is committed to seeking justice and ensuring the safety of our community equitably.

    Our primary office is located in Fort Collins, and our second office is in Loveland. Both are set in a picturesque region featuring the Cache La Poudre and Big Thompson rivers, Horsetooth Reservoir, and Rocky Mountain National Park. Fort Collins offers a vibrant community with running, biking, and yoga opportunities and a lively cultural scene with over 20 craft breweries, Colorado State University, and numerous family-friendly events.

    This position is Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., with some after-hour work required.

    Responsibilities

    Specifically, this position:
    • Represents the District Attorney's Office in criminal proceedings, including scheduling, plea negotiations, hearings, motions, and sentencing.
    • Reviews summonses, tickets, evidence, and witness statements submitted by law enforcement.
    • Determines if a crime was committed, its nature, and if evidence justifies prosecution.

    We are looking for a candidate that will:
    • Appear regularly in court, maintaining predictable and reliable attendance.
    • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
    • Build and sustain positive working relationships with colleagues and community members.
    • Apply knowledge of legal principles, criminal law, court procedures, and rules of evidence.
    • Exercise independent judgment in performing legal work.


    Qualifications

    All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required for the DDA I will be eliminated from the process.
    • No experience required.
    • Current license to practice law in Colorado, or obtain it within two (2) months of hire required.

    Supplemental Information

    An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check. Successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result.
