    You’ll join the Compliance/Enforcement Section of the Air Pollution Control Program where you will use science, regulation, and policy to help protect Missouri’s air. You’ll work with industry and their contractors along with team members within the Air Pollution Control Program to ensure that stack tests provide high quality data for a variety of air pollutants. You will review stack test plans, travel to sites to observe the stack testing, and review stack test reports.

    This position will be located at 1659 E. Elm Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101.

    • Review stack test plans. Test plan reviews often include a review of state air regulations and permits, federal regulations, applicable test methods, and coordination with the United State Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). Communicate any test plan concerns with the regulated community and their associated contractors. After agreeing upon the plan, provide approval as needed.
    • Observe stack testing. Travel to industrial facilities in order to ensure stack testing is occurring as required in the applicable regulation. If testing and/or facility operations are not sufficient during observations, communicate concerns as needed. Testing frequently occurs several hundred feet above ground. Overnight travel is often required.
    • Review stack test reports. The review includes evaluating large amounts of data and performing some calculations. In addition to recalculating the results, the review often includes a review of state air regulations and permits, federal regulations, applicable test methods, communication with the applicable facility, test crew, and USEPA. After completing the review, often write a response letter to all interested parties.
    • Assist with enforcement cases. Some enforcement cases involve stack test violations. As a technical expert to the circumstances surrounding the violation (what the testers did during the test, what the industrial facility did during the test, how an industrial process works, etc.), provide information as needed.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    • Compliance : Knowledge of procedures for assessing, evaluating, and monitoring programs or projects for compliance with State and Federal laws, regulations, and guidance.


    Equivalent to those typically gained by:

    • Bachelor’s degree in atmospheric science, biology, chemistry, engineering, environmental science, math, physics, or closely related field and 4-6 years of relevant experience. (Additional education or experience may substitute for the required education or experience)
