    The Position

    Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.

    Mental Health Counselor IIIs serve as a first line supervisor for professional clinicians on a case management team or treatment team OR independently oversee and implement the activities of a major program area such as a satellite clinic.

    The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) is recruiting for a Mental Health Counselor 3 at Southern Nevada Offices in the Childhood Mental Health. This position provides psychotherapy specific to children and their families, and case management. Incumbents provide psychotherapy utilizing evidence-based treatment practices, review records, complete assessments, prepare treatment plans, discuss child/family treatment during clinical supervision/consultation, administer individual and standardized assessments, integrate and analyze information from all available sources, document quality of care, ensure information is available to other members of the treatment team by completing required forms and report and maintain documentation to ensure compliance with established laws, regulations, policies and standards of care. Licensure or Post-Graduate Intern approval in clinical fields of MFT, CPC, or LCSW, or Psychologist is required.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field and three years of post-master's degree professional mental health counseling experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a master's degree and experience as described above. Special Requirements A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Licensure or certification as a Mental Health Counselor, Certified Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, or Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor issued by the appropriate licensing or certification authority is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.     The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
