THE OPPORTUNITY
Detention Aides have the opportunity to serve their communities working in a non-sworn capacity in the Custody Division; following the Sheriff's Vision, delivering consistent and humane care to those placed in our custody. Detention Aides are assigned to both the South Lake Tahoe and Placerville facilities working with inmates and alongside Sheriff's Correctional Officers.
The selected candidate will have the opportunity to: - Receives, collects, issues and exchanges inmate clothing; organizes clothing for delivery and delivers to appropriate locations; delivers soiled clothing to laundry.
- Maintains records of clothing issued, exchanged and returned; restocks clothing shelves.
- Oversees trustees working in the laundry; instructs in the proper operation of laundry equipment and in laundry procedures.
- Receives, sorts, bags, marks, stores and secures personal property from inmates; retrieves and returns personal property to inmates.
- Tabulates commissary orders from inmates and records charges to inmate's account; prepares and delivers commissary orders to inmates.

Sheriff’s Personnel Unit will assess your application to determine if you are minimally qualified using the following recommendations. Any combination of the required experience, education, and training that would provide the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
Detention Aide:
One year of experience as a stock clerk or in general office support work.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Possession of a valid Driver's License and maintain a satisfactory driving record.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS
Referred applicants will be required to complete a pre-investigative questionnaire. Based on the information provided, applicants may be disqualified based on criteria set forth in Part 7, Section 706.1 of the County of El Dorado Personnel Rules and in conjunction with Sheriff’s Selection Policy 1000. After screening, qualified candidates will be referred to the next step and notified of all further procedures applicable to their status in the recruitment process.

The Sheriff’s Personnel Unit will screen all applications to identify qualified candidates. Those qualified applicants will be notified by email at least one week prior to testing date.
A written exam will be utilized to determine an applicant's ranking and placement on the eligibility list. This exam will be administered online approximately two weeks following the end of this recruitment posting. If it is determined that you meet the minimum qualifications and are therefore eligible to participate, you will be notified by email.
