Job Location: Sikeston or Poplar Bluff (Alternate work location within the Southeast District will be considered)Why you’ll love this position: The area engineer represents a large (usually multi-county) area within a district and serves as the department's primary contact with area leaders, businesses, municipal officials, and the public to communicate the department's direction and resolve customer concerns; assists in the coordination of department activities in the area, including planning, design, permitting, construction, traffic, and maintenance functions. Responsibilities are performed under general supervision.
- Serves as the district liaison and primary point of contact within a geographic area for media, civic groups, business leaders and the general public, as well as federal, state, and local officials; acts with the delegated authority of the district engineer in making transportation decisions for the assigned area.
- Represents the department at community meetings, media events, information panels, civic gatherings, and other public functions.
- Provides leadership, direction, and engineering expertise across engineering functions and projects; may ensure consistency and provide quality control for area projects.
- Serves on area and project teams to assist in the coordination of department activities from identification of need through maintenance, including scoping, planning, design, permits, construction, and traffic.
- Participates in the planning process for a geographic area; works with district and statewide planning staff, Regional Planning Commissions, and/or Metropolitan Planning Organizations to identify and prioritize area needs, as well as align the planning process with statewide goals and resources.
Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university curriculum.
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of Missouri
- Six years of experience in highway or transportation engineering.
Special Working Conditions: - Job requires frequent travel within the district and occasional, statewide, overnight travel.
- Job requires residence in the assigned area.
